Yamaha FZ-S FI Hybrid Vs FZ-S FI: Differences Explained

Yamaha launched the FZ-S Fi Hybrid recently in the Indian market at Rs 1,44,800 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The FZ-S Fi has been a reliable and fuel-efficient sporty commuter and sells in decent numbers. Now, with the launch of its hybrid iteration, it has retained the regular bike’s characteristics and has become more feature-rich as well. Let’s see what the new FZ-S Fi Hybrid gets over the FZ-S Fi:

Price:

The new FZ-S Fi Hybrid is priced at Rs 1,44,800, which is a Rs 10,000 price bump over the regular FZ-S Fi’s price of Rs 1,34,800. (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Design:

The new hybrid model retains the silhouette of the regular FZ-S Fi. Both the bikes are offered in a single variant and two distinctive colour schemes each. The new FZ-S Fi Hybrid is offered in Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey while the regular FZ-S is offered in Metallic Grey and Matt Black.

Engine:

Both the bikes are powered by the same 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 12.4PS at 7,250rpm and 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm and is E20-fuel and OBD-2B compliant. While the power output remains the same, the newer hybrid model gets a SMG (Smart Motor Generator) for increased refinement that would be helpful for silent operation of the bike. The SMG also works as an electric motor providing boost to the engine’s power output, helping the bike to accelerate smoothly. When in use, it also helps in charging the battery of the bike.

Features:

The new FZ-S Fi Hybrid gets a 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity with turn-by-turn navigation and call and SMS alerts. The regular FZ-S Fi gets a LCD instrument cluster and misses out on a lot of connected tech. Both the bikes get a traction control system and side-stand engine cutoff features as standard for an increased safety quotient.

Underpinnings:

Both bikes share the same underpinnings with the Hybrid model carrying slightly more weight (1kg kerb) than the regular FZ-S Fi, due to addition of the hybrid tech. The bikes roll on 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres. The suspension setup remains identical with a telescopic fork and a 7-step adjustable monosock. The bikes also share their braking setup with 282mm front and 220mm rear disc brakes with single-channel ABS.
