Upcoming Honda CB500 vs Harley-Davidson X440: Compared

Honda recently unveiled the upcoming CB500 in India. Let us see how the retro roadster compares against the Harley-Davidson X440.

Engine 

• The Honda CB500 gets a bigger engine and produces slightly more power (+1.1 PS) and a massive 5.3 Nm more torque.The X440 feels relaxed and easygoing. On the other hand, the CB500 should feel a bit more spirited and a lot more torquey. 

• The X440 gets a 6-speed gearbox with slipper clutch, whereas the CB500 will come with a 5-speed gearbox. 

Features 

• Both bikes get Bluetooth connectivity.

• Both bikes get all-LED lighting with the headlight, taillight and indicators designed to complement their retro design 

• The Honda CB500 features an analogue instrument console with a digital inset. The Harley-Davidson X440 gets a modern TFT console on the top variant and an LCD console on the lower variant

Both the bikes offer modern features while retaining their classic appeal. 

Underpinnings

• While both bikes have almost similar underpinnings, the CB 500 will come  with a switchable traction control as standard. The X440 also gets traction control but it is reserved for the top variants only.

The Honda CB500 has a slight advantage in terms of underpinnings, as it gets switchable ABS, traction control and has variants with tubeless cross-spoke wheels.

Both the bikes are retro roadsters, each appealing to different sets of audiences. The Harley-Davidson X440 focuses more on providing a relaxed riding experience.

The Honda CB500 produces slightly more power and torque while also getting switchable ABS and traction control, giving it an edge in terms of electronics. Ultimately, pricing will play a key role in deciding between the two in the near future, but for reference, the Harley-Davidson X440 is priced from Rs 2,59,000 (ex-showroom).
