Ultraviolette X-47 Now Costs As Much As A Yamaha XSR155

X-47 receives a massive 40% price cut, but there’s a catch

Ultraviolette has now lowered the prices of its X-47 and F77 electric bikes under the new UV Battery Flex plan – basically BaaS (Battery-As-A-Service) model. This scheme lowers the initial price of the bike, by separating the cost of battery so that the customer will only have to pay for the bike, whereas the battery cost is recovered via the subscription scheme. 

This plan has been introduced in partnership with Ecofy, a financial company catering to EVs. With this scheme, the Ultraviolette X-47 costs the same as the price of Yamaha XSR 155. Here’s a detailed list of pricing for the Ultraviolette X-47 and F77:

With this, the Ultraviolette X-47 base variant’s price is lowered by a massive 40%, making it most affordable among the Ultraviolette bikes. The Ultraviolette F77 with the battery subscription program costs 33% less than its actual price. 

However the customers opting for this scheme need to pay for monthly battery subscription for five years. Once the subscription is paid, the battery ownership will be transferred to customers without any additional cost. 

That said, the battery subscription option is currently not available in East India, North-East India & Union Territory of J&K. So, if you are planning to buy a Ultraviolette bike with battery subscription, do check with your nearest authorized Ultraviolette dealership for the terms and conditions. Also note that the brand offers a 5-year / 1 lakh km warranty as standard for a worry-free ride throughout the tenure. If you ride more, you’ll end up paying more, but then you’ll also be able to close the loan quicker.

That said, while this subscription scheme makes both these Ultraviolette bikes more accessible initially, customers might have to pay a lot more than the standard cost by the end of the five-year tenure. 

For instance, consider the X-47 Base variant: multiplying the monthly battery charges (Rs 2499) by five years and then adding it with the up-front price of the bike will cost you Rs 2,98,940. That’s 49,940 more than the ex-showroom price of the bike if purchased outright. This means, you’ll end up spending around Rs 10,000 more every year, for five years - over and above the cost of maintenance and charging the battery. But then again, in EMI terms, the impact may not be felt as much. That’s the price you pay for convenience.
