  • No performance modifications were done to the bikes

Urban scrambler-style bikes are a hoot to ride in the city, especially when you don’t have to slow down for speed-breakers or potholes. Here are two tastefully modified Yamaha XSR125 into handsome-looking urban scrambler-style bikes. These were spotted at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show and were built by Kijima and Active, two companies that make aftermarket parts.

Kijima’s modified Yamaha XSR125

Let’s check what has been done to the bike: At first glance, we are drawn to the eye-catching aftermarket visor that complements the stock light blue colour of the bike. The stock tyre-hugging fenders have been swapped with custom fenders that sit at a higher position giving it the scrambler silhouette. It gets a braced handlebar that gives a more upright riding position, commanding control of the bike. The grips, mirrors and indicators have been replaced with aftermarket ones, enhancing its look.

The bike’s plastic bash plate is replaced with a punch-hole aluminium one. It gets a single seat adorned with leather with a chrome-finished grab rail for a premium finish. It is also equipped with a minimally designed saddle stay that looks good even without the bags mounted on it. One interesting accessory added to the bike is a helmet lock, something we haven’t seen on a bike for a very long time. Most of the mods are done to make it an urban scrambler and isn’t designed to do very serious offroad riding.

Active’s modified Yamaha XSR125

This Yamaha XSR125 is built by Active's neo-classic custom brand called 153 Garage. The bike gets a more rugged-looking finish. It has a very attractive colour scheme, inspired from the old-school bike, the Yamaha GT50/80.

The first thing that caught our eye was the Akrapovic exhaust system which looks rad! To make the bike look off road-ready it gets a headlight guard to protect the headlight, a wide-braced handlebar for an upright riding position, an aluminium skid plate to keep the engine protected from any damage to the casing and a sleek chain guard. The bike also gets wider footpegs for more room for your offroad boots, paddock stand bobbins on the swingarm, and adjustable brake and clutch levers which can bend back into place in case you drop the bike.

While we see a lot of aesthetic modifications, both bikes don’t get any performance upgrades. Overall, the modified Yamaha XSR125 bikes have a retro-scrambler vibe which we absolutely loved! While Yamaha hasn’t got the XSR125 in India yet, we’re hoping they bring it soon. While we wait, if you are looking for a neo-retro bike, you can check out the 150cc Yamaha FZ-X starting from Rs 1,37,200 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
