KTM’s 250cc street naked now comes with a dual-channel ABS unit

  • KTM 250 Duke gets a dual-channel ABS unit from the larger 390 Duke.
  • It misses out on the ABS modes the 390 Duke comes with but will be switchable.
  • The 250 Duke ABS now carries a premium of Rs 13,400 over the non-ABS variant.
  • Both the ABS and non-ABS variants will be sold alongside till non-ABS Duke stocks run out.

KTM 250 Duke ABS launched

KTM has launched the 250 Duke equipped with ABS to comply with new rules that require all motorcycles with an engine capacity of 125cc and above to be equipped with the essential safety net starting April 1. Launched at a price tag of Rs 1.94 lakh, the 250 Duke ABS variant costs Rs 13,400 more than the non-ABS variant (Rs 1,80,634, all prices, ex-showroom Delhi). The good news is that it gets the same switchable dual-channel ABS setup as the larger 390 Duke. Sadly, it doesn’t get the Supermoto ABS modes that’s available with the larger Duke. With the latest update, every model from KTM’s India lineup now gets the essential safety kit.

KTM 250 Duke ABS launched

The 250 Duke sits between the 200 Duke and 390 Duke and features bits and bobs from both bikes (more of that later). The bodywork and steel trellis frame is shared with the 390 Duke. However, the 250 Duke misses on LED headlamps and the full-colour TFT screen to keep its price in check. As for the suspension and braking setup, the 250 Duke gets 43mm WP upside-down forks, rear WP monoshock, MRF radial tyres, 300mm front disc with radially mounted Bybre calipers and a 230mm rear disc from the smaller 200 Duke. Where the 200 Duke differs from the 250 is that the smaller engined bike gets a single-channel ABS unit.

The 250 Duke is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor that puts out 30PS at 9000rpm and 24Nm at 7500rpm of torque. Its 6-speed gearbox comes with a slipper clutch.

For now, the non-ABS 250 Duke will continue to be sold alongside the ABS model until stocks last. The 250 Duke does not have any direct competitors in the country. However, it offers a similar level of performance as the recently launched Honda CB300R, albeit at a more affordable price point.
