Jawa 42 Real World Service Experience With A Fellow Female Rider
She also shared her favourite memory of a Ladakh ride which was organised by Jawa and her overall Jawa 42 ownership experience
The journey of buying a new bike starts from when you start exploring the available options in the market and find the one you connect with. But after finalising the bike there’s another important aspect of having a bike, which is ownership experience, service support, and service costs.
In recent months, Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle has updated its line-up in terms of design, engine refinement and overall riding experience, which sorts the first part for us. For the second part, we went for a Jawa service experience with a fellow female rider, Nupoor Kulkarni, who owns a 2021 Jawa 42. She has completed 22,000km on her bike and it was due for its 5th service. Nupoor also shared her favourite memory of a Ladakh ride organised by Jawa and her overall ownership experience. We also enquired about the overall maintenance and service cost of the bike.
What was our Jawa service experience like?
We went to a Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles service centre to get Nupoor’s Jawa 42 serviced. At the service centre, we were greeted by the service advisor, who checked the important details required for service including the service history, odometer reading, etc. The service advisor also asked Nupoor about any specific issues which she feels need to be fixed on her bike and then provided possible solutions for them. The service advisor noted everything and then provided Nupoor with a service quotation. Once Nupoor had agreed with the quotation, the advisor asked Nupoor to sit back and relax in the waiting room while they got the service done.
Next step by the service centre was to assign a mechanic to get the bike’s service done. The assigned mechanic then loaded the bike to the service bay and started a thorough inspection. The mechanic first did the basic check-up, then changed the engine oil, lubed the chain and checked the basic condition of air and oil filters. After that, he connected a device to the bike’s OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) to check the electrical components of the bike for any faults.
Following this, there was a basic maintenance procedure for checking the disc brakes and the brake pads for any wear and tear, and the brake fluids were replaced amongst other standard checkups. Finally, after everything was complete the bike was unloaded from the service bay and was moved to the washing bay.
Then, after its wash Nupoor’s bike was left for a while to dry off and then given a good wipe. At last, it was polished and Nupoor was informed that her bike’s service was completed. Nupoor paid the bill of just Rs 2,300 for this service, which included the paid labour cost too - which, considering that this was a full paid service, is actually very cost effective!
How much does a typical Jawa 42 service cost?
Here’s the approximate cost and service intervals of the Jawa 42’s first four services.
-
1st service - At 1,000km or 30 days from date of purchase (whichever comes earlier) and costs around Rs 1,600.
-
2nd service - At 6,000km or 180 days from date of purchase and costs around Rs 1,400.
-
3rd service - At 12,000km or 365 days from date of purchase and costs around Rs 2,800 (oil and air filter change).
-
4th service - At 6,000km or 180 days from last service and costs around Rs 1,600.
Hence, we are looking at an average service cost of around Rs 10,000 for the first 18,000km on the Jawa 42. When you look at the overall picture then, a rather stress-free ownership experience emerges, that is also quite wallet-friendly. So if you’re impressed with any of the various model options in the Jawa-Yezdi portfolio, now is a great time to get one!

It was great experiencing owning this bike. This is an underrated adventure bike. Yezdi service could have been better. But required much maintaining it in good condition. Did not regret buying yezdi Adventure. Company stopped making the colour which is unique (Magnite Maroon). Yezdi Adventure Magnite maroon 2024. Read More
