Honda Sells 1 Million BS6 Two-wheelers, Activa 6G & Shine 125 Leading The Charge

The feat comes nearly eleven months to the introduction of its first BS6 product: the Activa 125

  • Honda has actually sold 1.1 million or 11 lakh units so far.
  • Honda currently sells 11 BS6 models: 4 scooters, 6 bikes and 1 import.
  • Expect new models soon.

Honda has been leading the BS6 brigade right from the latter half of 2019. The Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer was the first to launch a BS6 product -- the Activa 125 -- in September last year. Since then, Honda has been updating nearly all of its BS4 models to the current emission norms and has managed to sell over 11 lakh BS6 products in India. It has become the first bikemaker in the country to achieve this feat.

It is quite an incredible achievement though as you must remember that for almost two and a half months, the auto industry was badly affected. The COVID-19 lockdown forced all automakers to shut shop temporarily. And even once factories resumed operations, restrictions on personnel and delay in vendor-sourced parts, meant the facilities couldn’t be fully operational.

As is always the case, the Honda Activa 6G and the Shine 125 BS6 have been leading the sales charts for Honda. The two products were the Japanese bikemaker’s best-sellers in BS4 and they still continue to do so in the BS6 era. Honda will also be looking to add more BS6 models to its line-up including the likes of the CB Hornet 160R, the CB300R and maybe introduce new models like the CBR300R. Even the Honda big bike family, which has currently been reduced to just the CRF1100L Africa Twin, will be populated with the BS6-compliant versions of the CBR650R and the litre-class Hondas.
