Honda Dio vs TVS Jupiter Classic: Spec Comparison

Two of India’s most stylish 110cc scooters face off on paper

The 110cc Honda Activa 6G is undoubtedly one of the most popular scooters in India, but the sheer number of them on our roads mean that anyone riding one is pretty anonymous. If you want something a little more stylish that will help you stand out from the crowd, you could choose between something like the edgy and modern Honda Dio or the classy TVS Jupiter Classic. So which of the two is a better bet on paper?

Despite having nearly identical displacements down to 0.21cc, the Honda manages to comfortably come out on top in both the power and torque departments. This is largely because the Dio packs a fairly modern engine that packs technology like an ACG silent starter while the Jupiter’s motor is the same as before, albeit fed by fuel-injection rather than a carburettor. The Jupiter does have a big advantage, though. Both scooters claim to be around 15 per cent more fuel-efficient than before, but our testing of the BS4 models has shown the Jupiter to be considerably more fuel-efficient than the Dio, by around 5kmpl in both the city and on the highway.

It’s a closely fought battle in this area of the comparison. The Dio has the advantage of a slightly fatter rear tyre but the Jupiter gets 12-inch wheels at both ends compared to the Honda’s 12-inch front and 10-inch rear combo. But while the Dio has to make do with steel wheels even on the top-end variant, the Jupiter rolls on stylish alloy units, which gives it the upper hand here.

The Dio is definitely the more compact scooter of the two, with a shorter length, shorter wheelbase and lower height. It also has marginally more ground clearance and thanks to its compact dimensions, it’s also 4kg lighter than the TVS despite the Jupiter’s alloy wheels, which should make the Dio easier to manage. To top things off, it packs in a sizeable (by scooter standards) 5.3-litre fuel-tank, which should give it more range.
