TVS Jupiter Expert Review
Overview
- The TVS Jupiter 110 is one of India’s best-selling 110cc scooters. The new Jupiter 110 is TVS’ contender to rival the Honda Activa 6G, which dominates the scooter sales in India. A good design, modern features, impressive performance and comfort, the TVS scooter ticks all the boxes that a good family scooter should.
Design
-
The TVS Jupiter 110 now features a completely updated design, giving it a refreshed and futuristic look while featuring a similar silhouette as the older Jupiter 110. The new design and colour schemes give it a more premium look.
-
The 2024 Jupiter has a big LED DRL (daytime running light), placed at the front apron and blacked-out panels make it look a lot more appealing than the older Jupiter, which looked a bit too plain.
Features
Safety
-
The SmartXonnect variant of the TVS Jupiter 110 has a 220mm front disc brake and a 130mm rear drum brake. It also gets CBS (Combined Braking System), which makes braking much more efficient and safe. But, addition of a rear disc brake instead of the drum would have made it even safer.
Convenience
-
I tested the TVS Jupiter SmartXonnect variant, which features a colour LCD console with Bluetooth connectivity features like turn-by-turn navigation, call and SMS alerts.
-
The turn-by-turn navigation works well, and is quite usable. But it’s not as effective as using full-fledged Google Maps on a phone, as it only shows direction and distance for upcoming turns.
-
Apart from the basic information like speed, odometer, fuel gauge, tripmeter, and clock and other basic telltale lights, the Jupiter 110 also shows average mileage and a distance-to-empty (DTE) readouts.
-
Other features on the Jupiter include voice assistance, a USB charging port and hazard lights. The scooter also has a "Find Me" feature, which has helped me multiple times in locating it easily in crowded mall parkings.
Riding Posture & Comfort
Rider comfort
-
The 2024 TVS Jupiter is a very comfortable scooter. It comes with a spacious and well-padded seat, which kept me comfortable all the time, even after riding it for hours.
-
The sitting position on the scooter is spot on as well. It has an easy-to-reach handlebar and a spacious floorboard space, which provided me with an upright and relaxed riding posture.
-
Only very tall riders (around 6 feet and above) will encounter the issue of the handlebar touching their knees when trying to take u-turns, but for my height (5 feet 9 inches), the Jupiter turned out to be very comfortable.
Pillion comfort
-
TVS has also focused on pillion comfort, after all Jupiter is a family scooter, as it has one of the longest seats in the segment. My pillion had enough space to sit comfortably and enjoy the ride on the new Jupiter 110.
-
Even the chunky grab rail is placed perfectly and is easy to hold on to.
Storage options
-
The TVS Jupiter 110 has a generous 33-litre underseat storage space, which is more than sufficient to carry my groceries, vegetables, fruits or my office bag, without having me to worry about where to put these things.
-
The big underseat storage space of Jupiter can easily accommodate two half-face helmets, one for the rider and one for the pillion, as well.
-
There is also a small cubby hole at the front apron where you can keep small stuff like your smartphone, chocolates, a biscuit packet or even a cleaning cloth. I used the cubby hole to put my smartphone in when I charged it from the scooter’s charging port.
-
The Jupiter 110 also has a hook at the front apron, which I used to hang my small grocery bags. This also enhances the convenience, eliminating the need to open the boot storage every now and then for every small thing.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The TVS Jupiter 110 is powered by an OBD-2B compliant, 113.3cc hybrid engine that makes 8.02PS at 6,500 and 9.2Nm at 5,000rpm without the hybrid assist, the scooter produces 9.8Nm at 5,000rpm with hybrid assist. It also gets an Intelligent Start-Stop Technology (ISST). Check out its acceleration figures here:
Acceleration |
|
0-40kmph |
3.70 seconds |
0-60kmph |
8.29 seconds |
0-80kmph |
17.97 seconds |
City Performance
-
The TVS Jupiter 110 is a great scooter for everyday city commutes. The engine is now slightly more powerful than before, and with the hybrid assist, it feels even better now. I felt that the scooter now has a good amount of torque which helped it to accelerate to 50kmph quite quickly.
-
The TVS iGo assist technology is fantastic and easy to use. It charges the battery every time you roll off the throttle and the system will tell you when it’s charged and ready to use. You can then open the throttle at higher speeds to get that extra boost.
-
The iGo assist hybrid tech offers quick acceleration in the city, which helped me to effortlessly overtake other vehicles, without requiring to plan my overtakes too much in advance.
-
The engine feels calm and refined even at slow speeds and the Jupiter 110 smoothly rides through slow-moving traffic.
Highway Performance
-
The Jupiter 110 even impressed me with its highway performance as well. The engine feels buttery smooth when riding on the highway with almost no vibrations under 60kmph. Even at the speeds of 70-80kmph, there were almost no vibes.
-
I felt that the iGo assist works best at higher speeds. When riding at around 70-80kmph, where the engine's power starts to fade off, the hybrid assist kicks in, which provided me with the much needed boost for high speed overtakes.
Mileage
-
The TVS Jupiter 110 delivers an ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) claimed mileage of 53.84kmpl in mixed city and highway riding conditions.
Handling & Ride Quality
-
TVS Jupiter’s ride quality continues to be as good as before. However, the suspension setup feels a bit stiff on bad roads and rough patches while riding solo. But with a pillion, the suspension setup works a lot better and absorbs bumps and undulations very well, delivering a pleasant riding experience to both rider and the pillion.
-
The TVS Jupiter 110’s handling has always been very good and it’s no different with the 2024 model. It shares the same lightweight and responsive frame as the Jupiter 125. This makes the Jupiter tips into corners very nicely. Moreover, the TVS Eurogrip tyres on the scooter also enhance the handling.
-
The front brake has good stopping power and is quite responsive as well, which helped me to slow the scooter down quickly, even at higher speeds. However, the rear brake lacks both responsiveness and stopping power. But the overall braking performance is decent and gets the job done.
Should you buy TVS Jupiter [2013-2024]
-
I feel that the TVS Jupiter 110 is one of the best 110cc scooters available in the Indian market. If I was looking to buy a family scooter, the Jupiter 110 would be my top pick. It offers everything that one would expect from a family scooter. The Jupiter is practical, feature-loaded, offers good performance, looks stunning, is comfortable and handles well too. Even the new prices are now very inviting since they start from Rs 73,700 (base drum variant) and go up to Rs 87,250 (disc and Bluetooth connectivity), both ex-showroom.
Which variant of the TVS Jupiter 110 should you choose?
-
The TVS Jupiter 110 is available in 4 variants, based on wheels, brakes and features. They are: base Drum (Rs 74,691), Drum alloy (Rs 79,200), SmartXonnect Drum (Rs 83,250) and SmartXonnect Disc (Rs 87,791). All prices ex-showroom.
-
I think that the top SmartXonnect Disc variant makes more sense out of all the available variants. Yes, it is slightly more expensive than the other variants but has smartphone connectivity, alloy wheels and a front disc brake as well, enhancing convenience and safety together.
-
But, if you are on a tight budget, then i would suggest you to go for the base or mid variants, which are also good value-for-money options.
