Its 420cc parallel-twin puts out 48PS and 43Nm, comes with a quickshifter, and offers riding modes ranging from Rain to Enduro Pro on higher variants. Moreover, the premium KYB suspension setup offers 180mm of travel at both ends for off-road work, and a proper 19-inch front wheel is also there, smoothing out rough patches. Then, there is a long list of electronics, including switchable ABS Pro, dynamic traction control, ride-by-wire, dynamic engine brake control, and more.

The R 1300 GS-inspired styling, a sweet parallel-twin engine, and a pretty high-end equipment list make the BMW F 450 GS a genuinely special machine for a very reasonable price. But for the same money, you could have Italian soul, track-honed precision, Austrian craftsmanship, cruiser drama, or Japanese dependability. The BMW offers versatile capabilities, and the Aprilia is all about excitement, but the Ninja 500 is a genuinely good motorcycle, and not just for some niche occasions. Kawasaki has been making Ninjas for a very long time, and the 500 carries that Japanese reliability and lineage forward with a lightweight trellis frame and a sweet 451cc parallel-twin.

Producing about 45.4PS and 42.6Nm, its super-refined engine comes paired with a six-speed gearbox via a slipper clutch. Its potent performance and a smooth, linear delivery make you feel like a better rider than you probably are.

The dual-channel ABS and Bluetooth-connected LCD console are all there. What's missing is traction control and a quickshifter, both notable absences being the second most expensive bike on this list. Featuring the largest engine any motorcycle offers under Rs 5 lakh, the Seiemmezzo Scrambler delivers 56.4PS and 54Nm, noticeably more than any other machine on this list.

Beautiful-looking round headlight, high-mounted pipes, a stepped seat, and that old-school silhouette – every design element on this motorcycle looks unmistakably Italian. Plus, premium hardware like Brembo brakes, fully adjustable KYB suspension, Pirelli rubber, and a 5-inch TFT with TPMS make it even more special. With a kerb weight of 215kg, it definitely is on the heavier side, and the service network is still sparse in India7. But if the character is what you're after, the Seiemmezzo has it in abundance.

Brixton Crossfire 500 X

Brixton is an Austrian brand that entered the Indian market over a year ago, and the Crossfire 500 X is among its very first products here. A thoughtfully designed middleweight neo-retro roadster/scrambler, built premium in its hardware choices, and refreshingly unpretentious, it doesn't shout for attention, but it earns it.

Paired with a six-speed gearbox, its 486cc twin-cylinder DOHC engine feels reasonably refined and produces 47PS and 43Nm of torque. Its adjustable KYB suspension setup at both ends, J.Juan radial callipers and high-performance Pirelli tyres feel top-notch in this price bracket. Plus, the 190kg weight and a 795mm seat height make it feel accessible and planted.

It's not the fastest or the flashiest, but it's sorted with the right equipment and has a classy personality with quite a unique appearance that leaves a long-lasting impression.

Benelli 502 C
Price: Rs 5.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Benelli 502 C's low-slung stance, wide bars, and dramatic bodywork make every other bike here look understated. It gets a 500cc parallel-twin that makes about 47.5PS and 46Nm through a 6-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. The 41mm USD fork and rear monoshock are complemented by a huge 21.5-litre fuel tank, which makes it genuinely good for comfortable, long runs. At 216kg, it's among the heaviest on this list, and at Rs 5.80 lakh, it's the most expensive, too. However, no other bike here turns heads on city streets quite like this one does.
