Kawasaki Ninja 500 Summary
Kawasaki has launched the updated Ninja 500 in India. The bike now gets a brand new colour scheme: Metallic Carbon Grey
The Kawasaki Ninja 500 is a supersport offering from the Japanese manufacturer. It comes with a typical supersport design and also borrows some design elements from Kawasaki’s higher capacity offerings like the Ninja ZX-6R and Ninja ZX-10R. Recently, we got a chance to ride the Ninja 500 and here’s what we think about the bike.
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Price:
The Kawasaki Ninja 500 comes at a price tag of Rs 5,29,000 (ex-showroom). It is only available in a single Metallic Carbon Grey colour.
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Engine:
Powering the Ninja 500 is a 451cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine which produces 45PS at 9000rpm and 42. 6Nm at 6000rpm.
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Suspension, Brakes & Other Details:
The bike is built on a trellis frame and is suspended on a telescopic fork and a gas-charged preload adjustable monoshock. It rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, wrapped in a 110-section front and a 150-section rear Dunlop Sportmax GPR-300 tyres. Braking duties are handled by 310mm front and 240mm rear discs, with dual-channel ABS.
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Features:
It features a full-digital 5-inch LCD display and comes with features such as smartphone connectivity through Kawasaki’s Rideology app. The bike also has a slip and assist clutch. The bike doesn’t come with any fancy electronics, so no traction control or riding modes
Kawasaki Ninja 500 Rivals:
The Ninja 500 primarily rivals the Aprilia RS 457. Another alternative in terms of price includes the Yamaha R3.

Things We Like
- 451cc twin-cylinder engine can handle everything: slow commutes, fast commutes, touring and even hardcore track days…all of it while being very easy to ride even for slightly inexperienced riders
- Looks - while the design hasn’t undergone a major change in years, the Ninja 500 is still a very good looking bike and will grab a lot of attention
- Handling - feels very nimble flicking from one corner to the other and once leaned over, the bike feels very stable as well
Things We Don't Like
- Lack of features - the Ninja 500 misses out on traction control, navigation, a quickshifter and even adjustable levers, features that a lot of lower-priced bikes have as standard
- Price - at Rs 5,24,000 (ex-showroom India), the Ninja 500 is a lot more expensive than its closest rival, the Aprilia RS 457, which costs Rs 4,10,000 (ex-showroom Delhi)
- The Ninja 500 is only available in one colourway: Metallic Spark Black, which is quite subtle. It not being offered in Kawasaki’s signature Lime Green
