After the Indian Chief Classic, the 2016 Indian Chieftain now goes black with the new Dark Horse edition, priced at $21,999 in the US.

Iconic American motorcycle manufacturer, Indian Motorcycle, has introduced the 2016 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse with matte black paint, a flicker of chrome, and a wealth of features. The hard bagger has been priced at $21,999 (approximately Rs. 14.65 lakh) in the US, which is around $1,000 lesser than that of the standard Chieftain. The cost cutting has resulted from the elimination of chrome from the motorcycle, lending the new edition conveys a menacing attitude thanks to its dark finish.

Apart from the visuals, there aren’t any changes in the motorcycle, and mechanically it remains the same Indian Chieftain which is available in the Indian market as well. All the key features of the bike are untouched, including the Thunderstroke 111 engine, power windshield, cruise control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), premium audio system, and much more. The iconic Thunderstroke 111 engine is a massive 1,811cc V-twin motor which produces up to 161.6Nm of torque at just 3,000rpm.

Commenting on the launch of the new motorcycle, Mr Reid Wilson, marketing director, Indian Motorcycle, said, “The Indian Chieftain Dark Horse’s blacked-out styling and powerful Thunder Stroke 111 engine will elevate our rider to the top of the pack. Starting with the award-winning Chieftain platform, the Dark Horse series signature matte black paint and raw attitude is an open canvas for customization that makes it the perfect bike for riders who are ready to ‘Be Legendary’.”

There are still some chrome elements on the 2016 Indian Chieftain Dark Horse like the exhaust and a few small bits here and there. However, the company is offering a large selection of authentic factory accessories to individualise the bike with performance improvement, better audio system, and – if you’re the sort who absolutely has to have the most stealth look possible -- more black.

The Indian Chieftain Dark Horse is expected to be launched in the Indian market by late-2016 and it could be priced around Rs. 32.5 lakh, making it almost Rs. 1.5 lakh cheaper than the standard version.
