The ABS version is priced at a premium of Rs 10,000 over the standard Himalayan

During the launch of the Classic 350 Signals Edition, the president of Royal Enfield, Rudratej Singh, confirmed that the bike manufacturer would launch the ABS version of the Himalayan and the Classic 500 in September. Staying true to his words, the company has now launched the ABS-equipped version of the Himalayan, which was confirmed by a few dealerships that we contacted in Pune.

Similar to the Classic 350 Signals Edition, the Himalayan too has received a dual-channel setup, which isn’t switchable. Considering the fact that the Himalayan is an adventure motorcycle, non-switchable ABS is quite disheartening because it limits the fun factor while riding off-road to some extent.

Royal Enfield has been selling the ABS version of the Himalayan in international markets for quite some time now. However, with the government making ABS mandatory for all bikes above 125cc from April 2019, Royal Enfield has decided to offer this safety net on its entire line-up in a phased manner.

Apart from the addition of ABS, the Himalayan stays unchanged. Hence, it’s still powered by the same fuel-injected, single-cylinder 411cc engine present on the standard bike. This motor delivers 24.5PS at 6500rpm and 32Nm of torque at 4500rpm. For better off-road performance, the Himalayan is offered with long-travel suspension on both ends. It also sports a large 21-inch spoke wheel at the front and an 18-inch spoke wheel at the rear, both of which are wrapped with Ceat dual-purpose tyres.

The standard Himalayan costs Rs 1.68 lakh whereas the ABS version costs Rs 1.78 lakh. The ABS-equipped Himalayan Sleet, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 1.8 lakh, which is again a price difference of Rs 10,000 over the standard Himalayan Sleet (all prices, ex-showroom).
