Royal Enfield Classic 350 Highlights

28 August 2018: Royal Enfield has launched the Classic 350 Signals Edition, priced at Rs 1,61,934 (ex-showroom, Pune). Its heritage design pays tribute to the Indian Armed forces who served in the 1950's. The bike is available in two colours called Airborne Blue and Stormrider Sand which comes with the safety net of dual-channel ABS. The very first Royal Enfield in India to feature one. Moreover, the bike also gets a single dark tan coloured seat along with 40 odd accessories to go along with the theme. Complementing the bike are additional accessories such as panniers, engine guards, touring seats, a tall windscreen, cast aluminium wheels and rear luggage racks. The Classic 350 Signals instrument console now gets a low fuel & ABS indicator rather than the ammeter.

It is powered by a 346cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine that churns out a max power of 20PS @ 5250rpm and a max torque of 28Nm @ 4000rpm, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The bike is claimed to clock a max speed of 130kmph. The company also claims that the Classic 350 returns a fuel efficiency of 37kmpl and has a fuel tank capacity of 13.5 litres. Braking is handled by a 280mm disc brake at the front and a 240mm disc brake at the rear coupled with dual-channel ABS. It has a telescopic suspension at the front with 35mm forks and twin gas-charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload at the rear.

There are eight colour options on offer with the base variant of the Royal Enfield Classic 350, which is available at a price of Rs 1.35 lakh. However, at Rs 1.61 lakhs, the Classic 350 Signals Edition is around Rs 23,000 dearer. It competes against the likes of the Bajaj Dominar 400, UM Renegade Commando Classic and the newly launched Jawa and Jawa 42.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 Expert Review

Crafted to display elegance and capabilities in its real face, Royal Enfield Classic 350 is one of the most popular and best selling bikes from the two-wheel manufacturer in its home country. The bike comes as the younger twin of Classic 500 and is loved by almost every Royal Enfield lover owing to its alluring retro styling. Despite of regular updates, the automaker has retained the classic retro look of the bike, which comes as a USP for the Classic 350. The motorcycle sports a vintage inspired design theme that gracefully envelopes its robust and sturdy body structure.

The contemporary rounded headlamps of the bike with chrome casing add towards the classy front stance of the bike. With this, the elements like single saddle, chrome-finished front and rear indicators, and chrome-plated rear view mirrors together add towards the retro styling of the bike. Royal Enfield Classic 350 features a long chrome enveloped exhaust unit that along with adding charm to the overall styling, hints the capabilities that the motorcycle is injected with. The rear look of the bike is kept classy and simple with a stylish tail lamp unit and tyre-hugging rear fender. The capable motorcycle shares the engine with the praised Thunderbird Twinspark sibling. This powerplant is a 346 cc single cylinder, 4-stroke, ai-cooled Twinspark engine that delivers a maximum power output of 19.8PS @ 5250rpm and a capable torque value of 28Nm @ 4000rpm. These power and torque values allow the rider to accept daring challenges confidently. Classic 350 scores high on refinement and the engine cope up to give you a mileage of 37kmpl, which seems appropriate in collaboration with the pumped-up power values the bike boasts.

The transmission unit that delivers drive to the larger rear wheels of the bike is the seamless 5-speed constant mesh gearbox working in precise coordination with the wet, multi-plate clutch. Royal Enfield Classic 350 is a heavy bike featuring a purely reliable braking performing owing to the front 280 mm disc brake unit and the rear 153 mm drum brake. The motorcycle is praised for its exceptional handling that is a conduct of its suspension assembly consisting of telescopic fork suspension in the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload at the rear end. Design and Features

Royal Enfield Classic 350 has the genetics of the trend that continues to appeal the Indian masses since a long ago. Though the machine was launched back in 2010, it continued the looks of the traditional Royal Enfield motorcycles. The reason to choose the traditional appearance was the charm and authenticity it offers and makes it extraordinary. Only technical advancements are made to the machine, which is highly necessary for the manufacturer to stay strong against its competitors. However, there is no such manufacturer that makes motorcycles as affordable and promising as Royal Enfield.

The machine is crafted on a single downtube type chassis that holds the engine as a stressed member. The wheelbase of the motorcycle is 1370mm that keeps the ride stable throughout the journey, while minimum ground clearance of 135mm also adds stillness to the manoeuvring. The suspension system that keeps the ride smooth and refreshing includes telescopic forks at the front and twin gas charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload at the rear. The motorcycle rolls on the 90/90 – 19-inch front and 110/90 – 18-inch rear tyre with spoke wheels. The wheels further sport a 280mm disc brake with 2-piston calliper at the front and a 153mm drum brake at the rear. The kerb weight of the machine is 187kg, which helps it stay ground and keeps the traction level high and effective.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 sports a look of a heritage motorcycle with no advance equipment and traditional styling. The round headlamp and long fenders remind of the motorcycles of the late 20th century. The bold and smart fuel tank has a storage capacity of 13.5 litres. Old school seat design of the bike makes it look unique and appears to be comfortable for both the rider and the pillion. From the rear, it looks aggressive and interesting with long shining muffler and bullet type side indicators fitted beside petite round taillight. Instrumentation of the bike is outdated and sports a speedometer and an odometer. The minimalistic side panels of the machine are in body colour along with rear and front fenders. The overall look of the motorcycle is electrifying.

Braking and Handling

The engineers at Royal Enfield have precisely focused towards the braking performance of the bike owing to its heavy built and pumped-up capabilities. The Classic 350 comes employed with 280 mm disc brake unit at the front end and rear 153 mm drum brake. Along with presenting you a great amount of riding comfort, the bike scores high in its handling, which is a conduct of its well-calibrated suspension system. The front wheel of the bike come encased with telescopic fork suspension unit and the rear end features twin gas charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload suspensions.

Safety and Features

Royal Enfield 350 Classic is surely a reliable offering from the motorcycle manufacturer. The sharp and dominating headlamp unit of the bike now comes integrated with the mandatory AHO (Auto Headlamp ON) feature, which makes sure that the headlamp remains in an automatic ON mode at any point of time irrespective of the surrounding light. This feature is introduced to reduce the rate of road accidents by allowing the rider a clear visibility at the road. With this, the automaker ensures that the rider is presented with an authoritative amount of control, which is owing to the prompt and powerful braking assembly of the bike. This comprises of front 280 mm disc brake and 153 mm drum brake unit at the rear end.
