KTM 160 Duke: Same Price Other Options

A calm retro motorcycle, a fully faired bike, a lightning fast e-scooter and more - lots of options for around the same price as the baby Duke

KTM recently launched the 160 Duke in India. At Rs 1.84 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), this streetfighter has been priced quite competitively when compared to some of its main rivals. However, there are a lot of other two wheelers which can be considered for the same price, if you’re not a fan of the Duke. Here are the top 5 picks:

Royal Enfield Bullet 350

Price - Rs 1,76,625 (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Royal Enfield Bullet 350 is easily one of the best looking modern classics currently on sale in India. Unlike the performance-focused nature of the KTM, the Bullet 350 delivers a calm and relaxed riding experience, thanks to its smooth 349cc single-cylinder, air-cooled J-series engine. In terms of ride comfort as well, the Bullet 350 is going to be a lot more comfortable to ride with its mid-set footpegs, a well-padded, roomy seat and perfectly positioned handlebar.

The Bullet 350 is as minimalistic as it looks and the motorcycle only offers necessary features - an analogue speedometer with a digital-inset (showing fuel level, odometer and tripmeter readings) and single channel ABS for safer braking. It is a great option to consider for people with a relaxed riding style and a love for retro motorcycles.

Yamaha MT 15 Version 2.0

Price - Rs 1,80,500 (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Yamaha MT 15 is a 155cc streetfighter motorcycle from the Japanese manufacturer and is the main rival to the KTM 160 Duke. Its liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine makes 18.4 and 14.1Nm, which is a bit less than the KTM, but the Yamaha is also 6kg lighter.

The MT 15 has been appreciated for its extremely good handling, and the high-revving nature of the 155cc motor makes it quite a fun motorcycle to ride. Yamaha recently updated the MT 15 with a 4.2-inch TFT console which also supports smartphone connectivity along with turn-by-turn navigation and SMS/call alerts. In comparison, the KTM gets a 5-inch LCD console, but also with the same connectivity features. If you want a peppy streetfighter with Japanese engineering, the MT-15 will not disappoint you.

Hero Xpulse 210

Price - Rs 1,85,800 (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Xpulse 210 is an adventure motorcycle from Hero MotoCorp that uses a fairly powerful motor and comes with some impressive off-road capabilities. It gets a 210cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that makes 24.6PS and 20.4Nm - much more powerful than the 160 Duke. Unlike the KTM, the Xpulse 210 is a proper off-roader with a 21-inch front and an 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup. There is a conventional telescopic fork and rear monoshock that offer 210mm and 205mm of front and rear wheel travel respectively, which is even more than the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450.

When we factor in the long-travel suspension, big spoke wheels, a powerful motor and ground clearance of 220mm, the Hero Xpulse 210 stands as one of the best options for people who want a capable and light weight adventure motorcycle that can have bad roads for breakfast.

Yamaha R15 V4

Price - Rs 1,89,780 (ex-showroom Delhi)

For people who want the thrill of riding a fully faired sports bike, the Yamaha R15 V4 is probably one of the best options to consider for the price. This Japanese motorcycle not only comes with extremely appealing looks but also gets advanced features like switchable traction control, a quickshifter, a digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and two ride modes: Street and Track.

It shares its 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with the MT-15, but uses a different sprocket setup for better top-end performance. The R15 has been praised for its razor-sharp handling, aggressive riding position, and punchy performance, making it a favorite among enthusiasts. You’ll just have to keep in mind that the riding posture may not be comfortable, especially when riding in heavy traffic.

Ather 450 Apex

Price - Rs 1,89,999 (ex-showroom Delhi)

For those looking for an electric two-wheeler without giving up on performance or style - the Ather 450 Apex is one of the most exciting options to consider in the premium e-scooter segment. It is Ather’s fastest and most powerful scooter yet, and gets a 7kW motor that can take the scooter from 0 to 40kmph in 2.9-seconds and is capable of hitting a top speed of 100kmph (both claimed).

The exclusive Warp+ mode offers an extremely exciting, and addictive acceleration. It comes equipped with a 3.7kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a claimed range of 157km. The e-scooter also includes features like regenerative braking and reverse assist. There is also a large 7-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, full-fledged navigation (that can work without a smartphone), ride stats, and OTA updates, making the 450 Apex not just fast, but also smart.

Expireance

So, I have owned this bike for like 3 years now, and no major problem has been there. It works well, looks amazing, and has low maintenance cost, at least for me. But the only thing is that it’s more of a cruiser, so from a speed perspective, it kind of lacks. Overall, a solid choice, just like its name, it’s a Bullet.Read More

Way Better Than I Expected!

Honestly, it was the Warp mode and the sheer acceleration. I wanted the quickest scooter on the road. The 'regenerative braking was very good in traffic areas. The transparent panels look sharp, too.. Overall its worth these performance is very impressive as it claims. Hitting 80-100 km/h is instant and effortless. On the highway, it holds its speed well, but you definitely have to stick to Eco/Ride mode to get a usable range. The Magic Twist feature is a game changer for stop-and-go traffic. Yes, I would recommend it, but only for the right person. Buy it if you love performance, want a premium, feature packed experience, and mostly use it for city or short distance highway travel. Don't buy it if range anxiety is a major concern, or if you are on a tight budget it's expensive and some features are behind a subscription. Read More
