Is it better to get the XPulse Pro or wait for this upcoming Japanese dual sport?

Kawasaki KLX230 vs Hero XPulse 200 4V Rally

Kawasaki has recently unveiled the KLX230 in India, and this upcoming dual-sport will go up against the Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro. If you’re someone who was looking to buy a dual-sport, and were planning on getting an XPulse you might reconsider now that the Kawasaki KXL230 is about to be launched soon.

In this article, we will be trying to answer the question of whether you should get the Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro today, or just wait for the Kawasaki KLX230.

    Kawasaki KLX230

The KLX230 is a road-legal off-roading bike from the Japanese manufacturer. The bike has a typical dirt bike look, with the raised fender, a long single-piece seat with a slim profile. Overall, it does look like a serious off-roader that is ready for business.

It is powered by a 233cc, 4-stroke, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine, which produces 18.1PS and 18.3Nm. Compared to the XPulse 200 4V’s output, this makes 1PS less but 0.95Nm more.

Coming to the underpinnings, the Kawasaki KLX230 is built on a steel perimeter frame and gets long travel suspension. The setup consists of a 37mm telescopic fork and a link monoshock, offering 240mm front and 250mm rear wheel travel. The seat height of the bike is 880mm and the ground clearance stands at 265mm. What’s most surprising about the bike’s underpinnings is the low kerb weight of 139kg, which is 22kg lighter than the XPulse 200 4V Pro’s 161kg kerb weight.

Overall, the KLX230 looks like a potent off-roader which can meet most challenges.

    Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro

The Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro is the rally-spec version of the Hero XPulse 200 4V, and features longer travel suspension along with a few other changes. The bike is still powered by the same 199.6cc air and oil-cooled single-cylinder engine as the XPulse 200 4V, which produces 19.1PS and 17.35Nm.

The underpinnings have been tweaked to make the bike more off-road friendly. It comes with a long-travel telescopic fork that has 250mm wheel travel and a monoshock with 220mm wheel travel. The bike has a seat height of 891mm and its ground clearance stands at 270mm.

Overall, the XPulse 200 4V Pro is a more potent off-roader than the XPulse 200 4V thanks to its tweaked underpinnings. Coming in at a price of Rs 1,54,766 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the 200 4V Pro is also quite affordable.

Should You Buy The XPulse or Wait For The KLX230?

Although both bikes are good off-roaders, selecting between either is not an easy task.

The main advantage the KLX has over the Xpulse is its low kerb weight, which will make a big difference while you’re hitting the trails. It will also significantly improve the bike’s power-to-weight ratio, which again improves its off-road credentials.

Now if you’re a serious off-roading enthusiast who wants such high levels of performance from a bike, then going for the KLX230 will be a choice you won’t regret. The bike will be launched in December 2024, with deliveries starting in January 2025.

Coming to the Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro, the bike is a bit heavier when compared to the KLX230 and won’t be able to offer the same kind of power-to-weight ratio or off-roading potential. But the bike has two major advantages over the KLX230.

The first is of course Hero’s wide service network, which makes service and maintenance quite easy. The spares are also quite affordable and easily available.. The other major advantage the bike has is its affordable price tag.

The XPulse 200 4V Pro only costs Rs 1,54,766 (ex-showroom, Delhi), whereas the Kawasaki KLX230 is expected to come at a price that is around the Rs 2 lakh mark ex-showroom. This is after the fact that Kawasaki has localized manufacturing of this bike. If you’re someone who is looking for a relatively capable offroader that is both affordable and can get its job done then the Hero XPulse 200 4V Pro is the bike for you.

      Hero x pulse 200 4V review after 22000 kms
I am five eleven and it suits me for my height. Comfort of a rider not a pillion and mileage is a plus for this bike. Maintenance cost is also very good and cheap you can get service done from any of the authorised hero service centres. I have been driving since almost twenty two thousand kilometres so far and im fully satisfied with the performance of this bike. I just changed chain socket and fuel motor in the fuel tank. Ride comfort is very good for rider not for pillion thats only negative. Yes I would definitely recommend this bike to those who have height above five eight. I am driving this bike since two thousand twenty two and no major faults or damages done to bike. I am fully satisfied with this bike.
