Honda SP125 vs Honda SP160: Top 5 Differences Explained

The Honda SP125 and the Honda SP160 are two premium commuters. Although both the models look similar, and share a few features in common, there are some key differences. In this article, we go over the differences between the two so you can make a better choice:

Engine & Performance

The Honda SP160 has a 162.71cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 13.1PS and 14.8Nm. Whereas, the Honda SP125 has a smaller 123.94cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 10.8PS and 10.9Nm. 

The main advantage that will be offered by the Honda SP160 will be better highway performance thanks to the additional power and torque. That said, the Honda SP125 still has the advantage of being a more fuel-efficient bike which can handle city commutes without much issue.

Single-Channel ABS

The Honda SP160 comes with a single-channel ABS system, whereas the Honda SP125 only gets a combined braking system. Now, in terms of outright safety the Honda SP160 scores much higher in our books. The single-channel ABS system will help in preventing the front brake from locking up under hard braking in emergency situations, thus keeping the rider safe.

The CBS system which is there on the Honda SP125 distributes braking force equally at the front and rear. This system will help bring the bike to halt in a more controlled manner. Each has their own advantages, but if you’re a safety-minded rider, who doesn’t mind spending more,  the Honda SP160’s ABS system will appeal to you more.

Dual Disc Brakes

The Honda SP160 has disc brake variant, which is a nice upgrade. The addition of a disc brake at the rear should improve braking performance to a great extent compared to a drum brake. 

The SP125 has a disc brake only at the front, and has to do with a rear drum brake. That isn’t necessarily bad, and is a cost-effective braking system. 

Suspension

The Honda SP125 features a twin shock absorber setup at the rear, whereas the Honda SP160 features a monoshock. The addition of a monoshock gives the Honda SP160 a cleaner look compared to the Honda SP125. 

More than performance, there’s a difference in the visual appeal of the two setups. The dual shock setup on the 125 looks understated, while the monoshock looks premium. Price & Verdict

When comparing the prices, the difference between the base variants of both models comes to Rs 27,343 which is a massive premium. If you're a budget-conscious buyer who needs a simple commuter, then we would suggest going with the Honda SP125. 

But if you are looking for something which has more performance and better features, and don’t mind paying more for the same, the Honda SP160 will be a good choice for you.
