The Yamaha Aerox 155 is one of the very few sporty and performance-oriented maxi-scooters in India. However, Honda could soon shake up the segment with the ADV160 which the brand recently patented in India. While both scooters use liquid-cooled engines and target premium buyers, they are expected to cater to very different audiences. Here’s a look at the top five differences between them.
Design
The Yamaha Aerox 155 follows a sporty design philosophy, mostly inspired by the brand’s aggressive looking superbikes. It gets sharp bodywork, aggressive styling and a sleek silhouette that makes it look more like a scooter-inspired motorcycle. The Honda ADV160 on the other hand, takes a completely different approach. It features chunkier body panels, a tall windscreen and an adventure-bike inspired design that gives it a tougher and more rugged appearance. Compared to the Aerox, the ADV160 looks more touring-focused and versatile.
Engine
Both scooters use liquid-cooled single-cylinder engines. The Yamaha Aerox 155 produces 15PS and 13.9Nm, while the ADV160 in the international market makes 16PS and 14.7Nm. On paper, the Honda enjoys a small advantage in both power and torque, which could translate into slightly stronger acceleration and better highway cruising performance. But that is something that can only be verified once we compare both the scooters side-by-side.
Underpinnings
This is where the two scooters differ significantly. The Aerox 155 rides on 14-inch wheels at both ends, with a wide 110-section front and a 140-section rear tyre. While the ADV160 gets a 14-inch front wheel and a smaller 13-inch rear wheel, along with block pattern tyres measuring 110-section at the front and 130-section at the rear. Combined with its Showa twin rear shocks, the setup should offer better stability and confidence on broken roads.
Features
Both scooters get premium features such as LED lighting, TFT consoles with smartphone connectivity and keyless ignition as well. However, the ADV160 is expected to get a larger 30-litre underseat storage compartment. While the Aerox 155 comes with a 24.5-litre underseat storage.
Weight And Practicality
At 133kg kerb, the ADV160 is 7kg heavier than the Aerox 155 (126kg kerb). The Aerox’s lower weight makes it feel more agile in city traffic and easier to flick through corners. The Honda, meanwhile, focuses more on comfort, touring ability and rough-road capability. Its block pattern tyres, larger bodywork and adventure-oriented ergonomics make it a more practical companion for longer rides.

And the engine is super refined. And it stands out in its competition easily. I have a mixed experience with this bike. The battery got dead in just 6000 km. I had to replace the battery. The issue with the rear rim was the worst. The socket in which the rim fits it got loose and when i went to the service centre, they didn't come up with the solution. The front suspension is so hard that you can't even take small pots on the road. And the fit and finish can be much better. The rear break is week. If the road condition is very good and millage is not an issue and someone who wants a scooter which can deliver power and has a good road presence can consider it.
