The 350cc Pulsar NS 400 Z is expected to be launched this month

The upcoming 350cc Bajaj Dominar 400 to get the same engine specs
After the GST 2.0 price hike on bikes above 350cc, manufacturers have had a tough time keeping prices in check. Until now, Bajaj Auto has been absorbing the GST impact, while keeping the price same. However, Bajaj will now downsize its two 400cc bikes – Pulsar NS400 Z and the Dominar 400 – to 350cc to make the best of the lower GST bracket. However, Bajaj might not change the names of the bikes; these will still be called the Bajaj Pulsar NS400 Z and the Dominar 400 (despite the engine capacity).

The specs of the upcoming 350cc Pulsar NS400 Z have leaked.. The bike will get a 349.13cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It will produce 40.6PS at 9,000rpm and 33.2Nm at 7,500rpm. As compared to the current NS400Z, the performance has dropped by only 2.4PS and 1.8Nm. In the real world, it shouldn’t have a drastic effect on performance.

Bajaj has managed to achieve these figures by changing the stroke size from 60mm to 56.1mm, while keeping the bore size same at 89mm. This is a move because it allows the brand to use the same engine head as before. The only changes should be to the piston, crankshaft, and a few other parts. Rest of the bike is expected to remain the same in terms of underpinnings and features.

The upcoming Bajaj Dominar 400 is also expected to use the same engine, but with a slightly different tuning, as is the case currently between the two bikes. Right now the Dominar 400 makes 40PS and 35Nm, and there should be a slight drop in its performance as well. Also, it is positioned as a more premium, touring-focussed bike. With simple GST-based calculations, we can expect the new Pulsar NS400 Z to be priced around Rs 1.80 lakh, and the new Dominar 400 at around Rs 2.20 lakh (both ex-showroom). That’s a drop of Rs 15,000 and Rs 18,000, respectively, over the current ex-showroom price.
