All-electric Tork T6X Spied Testing For The First Time

The Tork T6X, one of the most-awaited electric two-wheelers in India, has been spotted undergoing road tests for the very first time. The spy shots reveal a heavily-camouflaged bike with minimal bodywork and much of the underpinnings exposed. The most interesting of these is the chassis, which seems to be a short trellis frame that also uses the battery pack as a stressed member. Moreover, the subframe section branches out from under the rider’s seat, with the electric motor housed just below it. The unconventional but tightly-packaged design should endow the T6X with better mass centralisation.

Thanks to the shorter trellis frame, the T6X’s tubular steel swingarm is hinged around the electric motor. This results in a longer swingarm but without hampering the bike’s centre of gravity. The electric motor transfers power to the rear wheel through a chain drive setup. The images also show a rather large rear sprocket, which is essential for efficient transfer of torque. Another important detail is that the swingarm setup is similar to conventional internal combustion-engined scooters, whereby the engine is mounted on the swingarm. The T6X’s suspension setup consists of telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

As for more details of the powerplant, Tork had previously mentioned it was developing a 6kW electric motor. We suspect the spied test mule to sport the same motor. The bike also gets disc brakes at both ends, which could be aided by CBS (combined braking system). This is in accordance with the upcoming safety regulations that mandate CBS for all electric two-wheelers producing up to 11kW of power. The battery pack on the T6X is expected to carry IP certification (waterproof). But it remains to be seen how this works alongside the battery pack’s cooling system. Tork claims the bike will have a single-charge range of 100km and the battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in just one hour.

The images also show the bike with minimal bodywork. Judging from the prototypes showcased earlier, this is bound to change. As for ergonomics, the bike seems to have a slightly sporty but comfortable riding position. We expect the much-delayed electric motorcycle from Tork to be launched late this year or in early 2020. As for price, expect it to retail for around Rs 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
