Both two-wheelers are powered by the same 155cc engine but run different tunes

Both two-wheelers are powered by the same 155cc engine but run different tunes

  • The R15 M is going to get uprated hardware like USD suspension and possibly better tyres.
  • The Aerox 155 will be Yamaha’s entry into the large capacity scooter segment.
  • Expect the scooter to be priced around Rs 1.30 lakh (ex-showroom).

Yamaha India will be launching two very interesting enthusiast-focused two-wheelers today. While the R15 M is something that budding Indian sport riders have been crying out for a long time, the Aerox 155 is a surprising and welcome new addition to the Indian scooter segment. The launch proceedings should begin in a couple of hours, so here’s what you should expect:

Yamaha R15 M

As we discovered in the RTO registration documents a month or two ago, Yamaha was preparing a new variant of the R15 v3. Traditionally, Yamaha has used the ‘M’ badge for the sportier versions of standard sport bikes, like with the R1 and R1M. And if the leaked images from a dealer event are to be believed, the R15 M could very well have a lot more to be excited about.

It carries a new look inspired by the YZF-R7, finally gets a USD fork to match its sporty persona, and was spotted in Yamaha’s MotoGP colours. We think that it might also get radial tyres at both ends. One point that might dishearten buyers, however, is that the document suggested a further drop in power: 18.35PS (0.25PS lower than the BS6 figure). We expect Yamaha to launch this variant at a premium of around Rs 10,000 over the standard R15 v3 (Rs 1.57 lakh), with the MotoGP colours carrying a slight premium.

Yamaha Aerox 155

Yamaha had been working on bringing a large 150cc scooter to India for a while. While it was earlier believed it would likely turn out to be the NMax 155, Yamaha has gone for a sportier approach with the Aerox 155. The latter shares its 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled 4-valve engine with the likes of the R15 v3, MT-15 and XSR155, among others.  However, it runs a different tune. The RTO registration document had its power figure as 14.95PS, roughly 4PS less than the R15. Besides, it will be a pricey scooter, with an asking price of around Rs 1.25 lakh - Rs 1.30 lakh. Nevertheless, the Aerox 155’s arrival is one that should see the rise of such large-displacement performance scooters. Its chief rival remains the Aprilia SR160 which, by the looks of it, will be getting an update soon.

More details to follow shortly.

Over all good bike and also it's all versions

Riding quality is too good. Very huge and look is too brilliant. Just 155 cc but still beat any 200 cc bike. Engine is too reliable. Average is very good compare to other bikes. It gives me 40km per litre mileage and this is too good because it's a sports bike and still it give 40 kmpl mileage. I like it.Read More

Yamaha Aerox 155

The scooter is amazing. Great performance and good mileage as well was getting around 35 kmpl in city. Great handling and high-speed stability with good breaks. Everything is good but the scooter is not suitable for tall riders. The boot could fit an entire full-face helmet inside as well along with space to keep a jacket as well. Read More
