Yamaha FZ-S Fi V3 vs Yamaha FZ-S Fi V4: Differences Explained

The Yamaha FZ-S Fi is sold in two broad variants - Version 3 and Version 4. There are a few distinct differences in the two bikes, mainly in looks and price, and then a few bits. All of which can make the choice a bit confusing. But fret not, we will make it easy for you to choose the one for yourself.
First, the design. To instantly recognize between the two, the design tweaks will give you the first clue. The headlight is the biggest visual difference. The V3 has a two-piece vertically stacked headlight unit, while the V4 has a single unit, with LED DRLs on both sides. While the overall shape of both bikes is similar, the V3 has a bit more shiny chrome accents (especially on the more expensive Dark Knight paintscheme) while the V4 has more blacked-out accents.
The next bit of difference is the instrument consoles. The FZ-S Fi Version 3 has a negatively-lit LCD instrument console that has a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, and other tell-tale lights. The FZ-S Fi Version 4 has an LCD instrument console that also has the same readouts. It also supports Bluetooth connectivity through the Y-Connect application and shows call, SMS, and e-mail alerts along with phone battery level status. The Y-Connect application on your phone gives you information on your fuel consumption, recommendations for bike maintenance, last parking location, and notifications if the bike is malfunctioning. Another upper hand the FZ-S Fi Version 4 has in the features department is that it gets LED turn indicators, whereas the Version 3 gets halogen indicators.
The V4 has a traction control system that ensures the rear wheel doesn’t spin uncontrollably on surfaces with low grip. The Version 3 misses out on this feature. Also, in terms of dimensions, the FZ-S Fi Version 4 is slightly longer than the Version 3 by 10mm at 2,000mm and is heavier by 2kg at a 136kg wet kerb weight. The FZ-S Fi Version 3 is available in 3 colour options: Matte Grey, Matte Red and Dark Knight. Matte Red and Matte Grey colour options are priced at Rs 1,12,693, while the Dark Knight colour option is priced at Rs 1,13,610.
Version 4 is available in two colour options: Dark Matte Blue and Matte Black. It is priced at Rs 1,19,846 for both colour options (all prices ex-showroom Delhi). However, both the bikes are mechanically the same. They are powered by the same 149cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 12.4PS at 7,250rpm and 13.3Nm at 5,500rpm and paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The suspension setup consists of a telescopic fork and a 7-step preload adjustable monoshock, while the braking setup consists of a 282mm front disc brake and a 220mm rear disc brake with single-channel ABS as standard. Both have a ground clearance of 165mm, a seat height of 790mm, and a wheelbase of 1,330mm.
