TVS Apache RTR 165 RP vs Apache RTR 160 4V vs Apache RTR 200 4V: Performance Comparison

Our V-box data tells you how the limited-run Apache RTR 165 RP fares against its siblings

Last year, TVS launched the limited-run Apache RTR 165 RP under its new ‘Race Performance’ sub-brand, and it was sold out within days. We use our V-box data to show you how it stacks up against its siblings, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V.

Acceleration

Compared to its 160cc sibling, the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is noticeably quick. The displacement advantage is clearly visible from the get go. It packs 1.65PS more while weighing just 1kg more than the Apache RTR 160 4V. The gap widens from 0.37 seconds while sprinting to 60kmph to almost two seconds when the bikes hit the 100kmph mark.

In fact, the 165 RP comes very close to the RTR 200 4V in the 0-60kmph run, however, the additional 3Nm along with the displacement and power advantage gives it an edge over the Apache RTR 165 RP.

However, when it comes to roll-on acceleration, things don’t work in the RTR 165 RP’s favour. Since its power kicks in post 7,000rpm, it manages to stay ahead of the 160 4V in the 30-70kmph run, but falls behind the 40-80kmph test. When it comes to the RTR 200 4V, the displacement advantage coupled with the meatier mid-range results in better roll-on numbers.

Braking

The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP shows visible difference in terms of braking distance when compared to the RTR 160 4V. This can be credited to the 40mm bigger rear disc that the 165 RP has over the 160 4V and the re-tuned hardware. However, the single-channel ABS limits the braking performance, as the bikes tend to lose traction at the rear wheel under hard braking. In the case of the RTR 200 4V, the dual-channel ABS and the improvement to the braking components in the 2021 model gives it an edge over its smaller siblings.

Verdict

To sum it up, the Apache RTR 165 RP is definitely a step up over the standard 160 4V, however, it still falls behind the Apache RTR 200 4V. The RTR 200 4V not only packs more features, performance than the RP, but is also Rs 2,000 more affordable.
