    TVS Apache RTR 160 4V - Introduction

    TVS RTR 160 4V Review

The updated version of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has been teased online, and it is all set to get one crucial feature upgrade.

The Apache RTR 160 4V has been one of TVS’ most successful entry-level streetfighters – and for good reason. It not only pushed the envelope on performance but also set a new benchmark for tech in the 150 - 160cc segment. While it borrows some design inspiration from its bigger sibling, the RTR 200 4V, everything under the skin is very much purpose-built for the 160. In 2024, the brand gave the 160 4V a thoughtful update, adding 2PS of power and shaving off 2kg of weight. They also added to the bike's feature list without increasing the price significantly. The 2025 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V was launched on September 6, 2025, and here’s everything that’s new.

This review pulls from both spirited saddle time and lived-in impressions to answer a simple question: is the updated RTR 160 4V still the king of the segment?

    4.0

    Design & Build Quality

    TVS RTR 160 4V Design

    Design
TVS hasn’t touched the design this year (not yet at least), and honestly, I’m okay with that. The Apache already has that aggressive sculpted look with a muscular fuel tank, sleek LED headlamp, a sporty tail section and engine cowl.

The aggressive lines hint at its racing pedigree without feeling over the top. And it continues to stand out in a crowd of lookalikes. What’s new though are the race-inspired colours that were introduced last year. There are three of them but I’ll talk more about them in the next section.

Also worth mentioning is the full LED headlight. I rode the bike through some poorly lit stretches and came away genuinely impressed. It offers enough spread and throw to illuminate the road ahead, improving confidence during night rides. That said, the LED DRL design could use some work. The light tends to leak back toward the rider, which can be a bit distracting in pitch-dark conditions.

Here’s how the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V differs from the old one.

TVS RTR 160 4V Racing Red Fuel Tank

    Colours
The 2024 RTR 160 4V comes in 10 color options, three of which are new – Granite Grey, Matte Black, and Pearl White. If I had to pick, I’d go for either Granite Grey or Metallic Blue.

The former seems to stand out with a nice balance between the subtle Matte Black and the flashy Pearl White. And if none of these catch your eye, there are six other options to choose from, including Racing Red, Knight Black, Metallic Blue, Gloss Black, Lightning Blue, and the latest addition, Matte Black.

TVS RTR 160 4V Racing Red Seat

    Wheels
The 17-inch alloy wheels remain unchanged, but the red paint scheme ties in nicely with the red accents on the graphics and seat cover. It adds just the right hint of sportiness without going over the top. The Remora tyres measure in at 90/90 up front and either 110/80 (standard) or a wider 130/70 R17 radial at the rear depending on the variant. They offer solid grip for everyday riding and feel surefooted even on mixed road conditions.

    TVS RTR 160 4V Exhaust

    Quality
Everything feels solid, from the plastics to the switchgear, and even the paint finish. It feels like it’ll last. That said, I wish TVS had addressed the side stand issue, as it still causes the bike to lean too much, especially on uneven ground.

TVS RTR 160 4V Tail Light

    Features

    TVS RTR 160 Racing Red

    Safety features

The RTR 160 4V comes with single-channel ABS as standard, while dual-channel ABS is available on the top-end variants for an additional cost. It also features Glide Through Technology (GTT), which makes crawling through traffic a breeze. And for those who want better braking feel at the rear, there’s an optional disc setup that adds more balance to the overall braking performance.

Here are top 5 features the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gets.

    TVS RTR 160 Console

    Convenience features

You get a full digital LCD instrument console that displays lap timers, 0–60 records, and top speed. The good news is it’s legible even in bright sunlight. There’s also Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation, LED lighting all around, riding modes (Urban, Rain, Sport) on the top variant, and a handy hazard light switch just in case things go south. If you opt for the Special Edition, TVS throws in a pair of adjustable brake and clutch levers, a first in its class.

    Rider & Pillion Comfort

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    Rider comfort
I spent a good amount of time riding on highways and city roads. And I felt the seat was wide enough and well-padded. Also, the upright riding posture is easy on the wrists and back, so you won't feel any sort of strain unless you’re riding for hours together without a break. That said, if you're coming from a commuter bike, the rear-set footpegs may take a bit of adjusting to. As someone around 5'10", I did feel slightly cramped at first, but it became manageable after a few rides.

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    Pillion comfort
The seat is long and accommodating. Footpegs are placed well, and the grab rails are easy to reach. I’d say it’s a decent short-distance pillion bike.

    5.0

    Engine & Performance

    TVS RTR 160 4V Engine

    Engine

The most exciting part about the bike is firstly its handling and secondly, its engine. It’s powered by a 159.7cc single-cylinder, oil-cooled, 4-valve engine, which was retuned in its last update to produce more power and torque. As a result, it makes 17.4 PS at 9,250rpm and 14.73Nm at 7,250rpm. Ring the throttle, and it feels punchy yet refined throughout the rev range.

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    City performance
The bike is tractable even at low speeds. Glide Through Technology (GTT) is a blessing in disguise in traffic, as it allows the bike to crawl at low speeds just using the clutch in the first 3 gears. The clutch feels light, and the gearbox is smooth with positive shifts.

The engine character is such that it’ll urge you to rev it till the redline, without any complaints. Unlike some competitors that run out of breath past 7,000rpm, the RTR 160 4V builds momentum right up to its 9,000rpm redline. I was darting through city traffic and zipping through open roads, the motor felt alive and willing.

Not to mention the new Bullpup exhaust, TVS says it sheds some weight, delivers a sportier exhaust note, and helps with smoother power delivery. From my experience, it adds a bit more character to the ride.

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    Highway performance
It cruises comfortably at 90 - 100kmph with minimal vibrations on the tank, once you get past 6,000rpm. Other than that, the engine remains unstressed, and overtakes don’t require too much planning either.

    TVS RTR 160 Engine

    Gearbox
I’ll keep this sort since there isn’t anything to complain about. The gears are slick and precise. Even though the bike doesn’t have a slipper clutch, the lever action feels effortless. Upshifts and downshifts are quick and drama-free, even in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

    45 - 50 kmpl

    42 - 45 kmpl

TVS claims the bike delivers between 45 - 50kmpl under ideal conditions – and honestly, they’re not far off. In our real-world tests, it returned a respectable 42 - 45kmpl across both city and highway riding. That’s pretty good considering I wasn’t easy on the throttle out on the highway. With a 12-litre fuel tank and that kind of efficiency, we’re looking at a real-world range of around 500 km on a full tank – more than enough for daily rides and weekend escapes.

    Handling & Ride Quality

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    Underpinnings
Like I mentioned earlier, I genuinely love how the Apache RTR 160 4V handles. You can tell TVS’ racing division had a say in the way the double cradle Synchro Stiff chassis has been set up. It feels sharp and predictable at the same time. The bike stays stable at high speeds and flows through tight corners with ease. The 2 kilo drop in weight makes it feel more responsive, and the sculpted tank offers excellent grip which gives you a lot more confidence when leaning in.

    TVS RTR 160 Front Disc

    Brakes

Our test unit came equipped with a 270mm petal disc at the front and an optional 200mm disc at the rear. Out on the road, the front brake delivered solid bite and stopping power, but I did wish for a bit more feedback at the lever. Maybe adjustable levers could help fine-tune that feel. That said, the braking setup overall is progressive and reassuring, and it gave me the confidence to brake hard when needed without any drama.

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    City handling
With a kerb weight of just 144 kilograms, the Apache RTR 160 4V felt like a breeze to ride in city traffic. It feels light on its feet, and direction changes are quick and effortless. Thanks to its compact size and easy steering, it fits right into the flow of urban chaos without breaking a sweat.

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

    Highway handling
Out on the highway, the Apache felt surprisingly composed, even at triple-digit speeds. Strong crosswinds didn’t unsettle it, and the straight-line stability gave me the confidence to hold higher speeds for longer stretches.

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Cornering

    Cornering
I tried to push the bike to its absolute limit. And I must say, it leans in with confidence, and the Remora tyres grip surprisingly well. I happened to mess up my lines a couple of times due to massive potholes, but the chassis was forgiving and helped me settle back in smoothly. Honestly, it’s one of the most confident cornering machines in this class.

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Front Suspension

    Ride quality

I rode the Apache RTR 160 4V across all kinds of roads, and on smooth, well-paved stretches, it shines – feels planted, agile, and corners with ease. But the rear suspension is on the firmer side, so I felt the sharper bumps and potholes. It’s not uncomfortable overall, but rough patches caught me off guard.

    4.0

    Verdict

TVS RTR 160 Racing Red Riding Shot

The RTR 160 4V continues to be the gold standard for 160cc sporty commuters. It’s fast, frugal, packed with tech, and still one of the best-handling motorcycles under Rs 1.5 lakh. Also, the new engine tune makes it more exciting than before without compromising on refinement.

Great Performance and Handling but City Mileage Co
I chose the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V TFT USD model mainly for its sporty design, features and strong road presence. The bike feels very stable on highways and comfortable for daily city rides. Handling is sharp and confidence inspiring. It is also good for family usage when riding normally. Overall the build quality, braking and features like TFT display make the bike feel premium in this segment. Ride quality so far has been very good. The Apache RTR 160 4V TFT USD has excellent handling and stability. In highways the bike feels planted and smooth even at higher speeds. Braking performance and suspension are also good for most road conditions. But the biggest downside for me is the city mileage. In city I am getting around 28 to 32 kmpl, which is lower than expected for a 160cc bike. If someone wants good performance, sporty design, great handling and modern features, the Apache RTR 160 4V TFT USD is a very good choice. However mileage is the only reason I hesitate to recommend it to everyone. Competitors like Pulsar N160 give better mileage in city conditions. So if mileage is your main priority you may consider other options, but apart from that the bike is really enjoyable to ride.

A Perfect Balance of Power and Style.
I chose the Apache RTR 160 Limited Edition for its sporty performance, sharp handling, unique limited-edition looks, good mileage, and reliable TVS build, making it perfect for daily use with a premium feel. Apache RTR 160 Limited Edition so far is smooth and fun it feels responsive with good pickup, confident in city traffic, and stable at higher speeds. The handling is sharp and the overall ride quality is comfortable for daily commuting as well as weekend rides. I would recommend the Apache rtr 160 Limited Edition if you are looking for a bike that fun to ride, reliable, good on mileage, and turns heads with its sporty looks. It is a great all round choice for both daily commuting and weekend rides.

      Apache RTR review
According to online review it's the best bike in the segment. I reviewed other bikes in the segment and everybody has their pros and cons but this is the overall best friend and it has been running on the roads were years that's why. Very punchy and comfortable. It's very manuvareble in traffic and the blood through technology is very helpful in the driving also when it comes to I wait as a very good performance. Mileage is pretty good. Yes to anyone in this segment. Even even has an interesting 160 CC segment this is the best way to go for according to me as it as too much features for the price range and it is very much good for this age group.

My journey of apache rtr 160 4v
Because of double channel abs its effective for mountain and city. It comes with good ground clearance and better seating posture. Also include good mileage during rides. Gear shift are good and overall power is excellent As I said mileage is quite good, compared to other bikes on this segment riding pasture are also good enough. On highways its good as compared to n160. One thing that I recommend front tyre size it might be increased to 100. If you are College going student or a employee you can opt this bike, in city and highways this bike gives you best results and if you have to travel around 80-120 km regular you can look at this side, specially if you are off road riders. This gives you more ground clearance then n160.

      Outstanding performance
Highly praised as a sporty yet practical all-rounder, excelling with its strong, smooth, and powerful engine for its class, agile handling, comfortable ergonomics for city commutes and occasional touring. Excellent features like GTT and slipper clutch, good mileage (around 45 km/l), and overall value, though some mention potential higher maintenance costs and lack of advanced safety like ABS on base models. TVs Apache RTR 160 4v is good performance bike in 160cc segment out standing performance it's looking beautiful.

      Elegance in motion 4v
Power delivery is top notch in this segment. Great service reach and cheap service cost , great exhaust sound, ofcourse its a tvs , Good breaking , good headlight throw, light weight , Gives good mileage of around 40 - 45 kmpl for me. What else you need. Its so far been enjoyable. Rode more than 4000 km on it , I enjoy ride this bike on highways and short rides pretty much. Overtakes effortlessly, gear shifting is smooth. Its comfortable for both rider and the pillion. Just its feel stiff on bad roads . Braking is good. Yeah with my heart, its an apache, it is ruling in hearts of many indian riders. Its fun to ride, Stylish and aggressive. Sound that make you in love with this motorcycle. Just little flaws like stiffness, not so good quality and misses gear shift indicator.

      Tvs apache rtr 160 4v
Bike looks and experience are fantastic. Best suitable for city and highway rides. Highly recommend. I drove 27500km and the experience and engine performance was very good. I recommend this is best for small families and students. Off road ride also comfortable. Totally worth buying. I'll give overall 4.5 out of 5.(because every bike has some minor defects based on rider experience).

      A little bit of apache 160 4v
I love the look of the bike. And the light is looking good. The mileage is as I expected from a 160cc bike. The main thing is look. I love the look so I suggest it. It's an indian brand so I trust it . Anyone who want to buy this , can expect that it's a killer machine of 160 cc and the comfort is good for the rider and also the pillion seat is also comfortable. The top speed can go upto 125 kmph. The milege can be 44 kmpl expected. Yes of course as a student I can easily maintain it. The charge is not too higher and the bike is also pocket saver You want to use it for daily routine then it is a good choice . But if your budget can then prefer apache 200 4v cause the mileage can be less but the power is little higher ..
