While the 249cc motor has been retuned for BS6 compliance, both bikes look the same as before

  • Suzuki has teased the two bikes on its website.
  • Bookings for the duo have already commenced.
  • Suzuki took the wraps off the BS6 bikes at Auto Expo.

Suzuki has teased the BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 on its website, suggesting that the two bikes could be launched as soon as the lockdown is lifted. We got a glimpse of the two bikes as well as their specifications at Auto Expo 2020. However, Suzuki refrained from announcing the price of the bikes at the event. We expect the two bikes to cost around Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000 more than the BS4 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 that retailed at Rs 1,59,800 and Rs 1,71,456 (both prices, ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.

Bookings for both bikes have commenced for a token amount ranging between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000. There are no cosmetic or feature updates on either bikes. These bikes were already BS6-ready and just needed minor mechanical tweaks to help them comply with the new emission norms.

The quarter-litre Gixxer twins use a 249cc BS6-compliant fuel-injected single-cylinder engine with a unique oil-cooler. It's been tuned to produce 26.5PS (same as before) at 9300rpm but makes less torque than before -- 22.2Nm at 7300rpm compared to 22.6Nm on the BS4 model. The motor retains the same 6-speed transmission.

There's no change in their hardware either. The  BS6 Gixxer 250 and Gixxer SF 250 makes use of a telescopic fork, a rear monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends paired with dual-channel ABS. Its 17-inch wheels come shod in 110/70-section front and 150/60-section rear radial tyres. In terms of competition, the BS6 Suzuki Gixxer 250 competes with the Yamaha FZ25, the KTM 250 Duke and the Bajaj Dominar 250 while the SF 250 goes up against the KTM RC 200.
