There could be a significant drop in prices with Kawasaki considering local assembly

Kawasaki is likely to ditch the CBU route with the Ninja ZX-10R just like it did with the Ninja 1000, last year. The Ninja 1000 was brought to India as SKD (semi-knocked down) kits and assembled here. As a result, it was priced at an unbelievable Rs 9.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

And now, reports suggest that the same treatment is expected for the Ninja ZX-10R. Kawasaki will assemble the bike locally at its new facility in Chakan after importing the kits from Japan. This move is expected to bring the bike’s price down by around Rs 2 lakh. Currently, the Ninja ZX-10R retails for Rs 15.8 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). However, once local assembly gets underway, the Ninja ZX-10R might be available for less than Rs 14 lakh. This would also make it the most affordable 1000cc bike to be sold in India. Currently, this title is held by the Honda CBR 1000RR Fireblade which retails at Rs 14.78 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Talking about the bike, it employs a powerful 998cc liquid-cooled, inline-4 engine that churns out a max power of 200PS at 13,000rpm and a peak torque of 113.5Nm at 11,500rpm. The Ninja ZX-10R has been a leader with immense success. It has even won the ‘World Superbike Championship’ thrice in a row.

Along with the Kawasaki ZX-10R, there is a race-edition on offer too, called the Ninja ZX-10RR. It comes with more premium features like three-stage launch control, a KQS quick-shifter, five-stage traction control and plenty more than the ZX-10R. A recent reduction in import duties on CBUs made bikes more affordable than usual. Kawasaki too had announced a price cut on its existing models, which is, of course, a welcome move for biking enthusiasts.
