This new model takes the fight straight to the Hero Xtreme 125R, which has already established itself as a powerful and stylish alternative to basic 125cc commuters. The Hero Xtreme 125R claims the edge on peak power with slightly more than the Honda CB125 Hornet’s 11.14PS. But the Hornet claws back with a stronger torque figure, surpassing the Xtreme - which should theoretically translate to easier in-gear acceleration. Underpinnings

The Honda CB125 Hornet stands out more with its golden coloured inverted fork (also its more eye-catching neon colours) - a first in this segment, and gives it more road presence. The Hero Xtreme 125R counters with a larger front disc - 276mm on ABS variants, which could mean better stopping power. While both bikes offer a monoshock, the Xtreme’s chunkier tyres give it a slightly more muscular stance at the rear.

Dimensions

The Honda CB125 Hornet is lighter by 8-12kg depending on the variant of the Hero Xtreme 125R, which should help it feel more nimble in traffic. While its seat height is accessible, the Hornet’s ground clearance is a lot lower than the Xtreme’s, although it should be sufficient for most city scenarios. Shorter riders may find the Hornet easier to manage, while taller riders may prefer the roomier feel of the Xtreme. The Hero bike remains one of the best value-for-money sporty commuters offering ABS, strong mileage, and aggressive styling for around Rs 1 lakh. The Honda CB125 Hornet is likely to command a small premium, but justifiably so - given its TFT screen, inverted fork, and navigation. On paper, Honda offers more tech and polish, while Hero delivers a balanced mix of features and affordability. We will reserve the final judgement once we get to know the pricing of the Hornet 125, which is likely to happen by the end of this month. If the pricing is competitive, the Hornet could give the Xtreme its toughest challenge yet. But for now, the Xtreme retains its value crown.
