Honda Activa 6G: Same Price, Other Options

India’s most popular scooter has just been updated, but what else can you get for the same sort of money?

The Honda Activa 6G is a significant launch for Honda as it’s not only the brand’s best-selling vehicle but also the nation’s. This 6th generation carries it into the BS6 era with an all-new, fuel-injected motor, as a result of which prices have gone up by close to Rs 8,000. The top-end Deluxe variant gets an LED headlight and will cost you Rs 65,412 (ex-showroom Delhi), so what else can you buy for a similar sum? We take a look:

Suzuki Access 125 BS6

Another very important recently updated BS6 scooter is the Suzuki Access 125 BS6, which has also received fuel-injection. In a similar spec to the Activa 6G, with steel wheels and drum brakes, it will set you back by Rs 64,800, which actually makes it a little more affordable than the Honda.

Despite demanding less cash, it gives you a motor that’s 14.5cc larger and produces 0.91PS and 1.2Nm more than the Activa, making it relatively good value for money. It’s also more spacious, slightly more feature-rich and gets more underseat storage space.

Yamaha Fascino 125 Fi

It’s not just Suzuki, fellow Japanese manufacturer Yamaha also has a BS6-compliant 125cc scooter at nearly the same price as the Activa 6G. The Fascino 125 Fi costs Rs 66,430 in its drum brake variant.

That’s a little under Rs 1,000 more expensive than the Activa but for this price, you get alloy wheels which the Honda misses out on. It also gets an ACG starter, just like the Activa, but its 125cc motor generates 8.2PS and 9.7Nm compared to the 6G’s 7.79PS and 8.79Nm.

Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon

If scooters just aren’t your thing, you can get yourself quite a decent motorcycle in the form of the Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon. Its 124.4cc motor may be carburetted, but it puts out 12PS and 11Nm, making it considerably quicker than all the other vehicles on this list.

The top-of-the-line variant will set you back by Rs 66,618, and for this price you get alloy wheels as well as a front disc brake. So if you want the most bang for your buck and aren’t hung up on buying a scooter, the Pulsar provides the best option.

Okinawa Lite

This is 2020, so you could opt to go down the electric route as well. At Rs 59,990, the recently introduced Okinawa Lite provides a decent electric option with its removable lithium-ion battery pack.

Yes, it only gets a 250W motor and the top speed is rated at just 25kmph, but this means that you don’t need a license to ride it. So if all you want is a little city runabout, you don’t mind going slow and your carbon footprint is of great importance to you, the Okinawa is the one to go for.

TVS Jupiter Classic BS6

The only other BS6-compliant 110cc scooter on the market right now is the TVS Jupiter Classic BS6, priced at Rs 67,911. This makes it a bit more expensive than the Activa, but your extra cash goes towards alloy wheels, a front disc brake, a windscreen and various chrome touches across the scooter.

TVS hasn’t released specs for the BS6 variant, but the BS4 Jupiter ekes out 8PS and 8.4Nm from its motor. So we expect the BS6 version to have power output similar to the Activa, but torque will be noticeably lower.
