The battle for maxi-scooter supremacy is about to get a lot more interesting

Yamaha Nmax 155 vs Hero Xoom 160: Top 5 Differences Explained In Detail

The maxi-scooter segment in India is finally heating up. While Hero has the Xoom 160 priced at Rs 1,39,898 (ex-showroom, Delhi), Yamaha is preparing to bring the Nmax 155 to India early next year. On paper, both scooters target riders looking for comfort, practicality and touring ability, but they go about it in very different ways. Here are the top five differences:

    1. Adventure-Inspired Vs Premium Urban Design

The Hero Xoom 160 has a rugged, ADV-inspired design with a tall front end, raised beak, block-pattern tyres and chunky bodywork. It looks ready for broken roads and weekend getaways.

The Yamaha NMax 155, on the other hand, focuses more on premium appeal. It gets smoother body panels, a large windscreen and a more sophisticated overall design that feels closer to an executive commuter.

    2. Bigger Engine, But Not More Power

    The Xoom 160 is powered by a 156cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine producing 14PS and 13.7Nm.

The Nmax 155's 155cc liquid-cooled engine makes 15.4PS and 13.9Nm in international markets. Even if the India-spec version is tuned similarly to the Aerox 155, it is still likely to have a slight edge in performance.

    3. Features: Yamaha Takes The Lead

Hero has equipped the Xoom 160 with a digital console, keyless ignition and an idle stop-start system.

The Yamaha Nmax 155 is expected to offer a TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation, along with traction control, ABS, USB charging and keyless ignition. If these features make it to India, the Yamaha will be the more tech-packed scooter.

    4. Wheels And Road Presence

The Hero scooter rolls on larger 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped in block-pattern tyres, adding to its adventure-scooter character.

The Nmax 155 uses 13-inch wheels at both ends, prioritising agility and urban comfort over rugged styling.

    5. Practicality Vs Ruggedness

Internationally, the Yamaha Nmax 155 offers 25 litres of underseat storage, making it a more practical everyday scooter.

    Hero Xoom 160 Underseat Storage

The Hero Xoom 160 though has a smaller 22 litres of underseat storage, counters with a higher 155mm ground clearance and a more rugged setup, making it better suited to tackling rough roads and speed breakers.

    BikeDekho Says

The Hero Xoom 160 is aimed at riders who want an adventure-flavoured maxi-scooter with a distinctive design. The maxi Yamaha scooter, meanwhile, looks set to attract buyers seeking a more premium, feature-rich and refined urban tourer. With both expected to be priced around the Rs 1.5 lakh mark, the battle could come down to whether you value rugged character or premium sophistication.
