The 4V variants get a brand new engine, more features, updated underpinnings and more, but is that enough? We analyse

    N160 4V VS 2V

Bajaj has recently launched the Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS – two new variants of the Pulsar N160. Both get a new 4-valve engine, more features, and changes to the ergonomics. Here's how they differ from the standard Pulsar N160 2V

    Price

    Model

    Price (ex-showroom)

    Pulsar N160 2V

    Rs 1,16,142 to Rs 1,28,496

    Pulsar N160 S

    Rs 1,33,511

    Pulsar N160 SS

    Rs 1,42,585

The powerful engine, additional features and upgraded underpinnings have made both the 4V variants more expensive than the top-spec Pulsar N160 2V.

    Design

    • At first glance, it is difficult to differentiate between the two. Both variants get the same LED projector headlight, muscular fuel tank and sporty body panels. However, the main differences lie in the graphics and colour schemes.

    • The Pulsar N160 S and N160 SS get revised graphics compared to the 2V variants.

    • The 4V variants also get sporty red alloy wheels on the Brooklyn Black colour.

    • The Pulsar N160 S gets a single-piece seat which should make it more comfortable for the pillion, while the N160 SS comes with a split seat setup which gives it a sportier look.

    • The Pulsar N160 2V is also available with both single-piece and split seat options, depending on the variant.

The biggest difference between the Pulsar N160 2V and the new N160 4V variants is the engine.

    • The N160 2V uses a 2-valve, air-cooled engine, while the N160 4V variants get a brand new 4-valve, oil-cooled engine.

    • The new engine gets a larger bore, shorter stroke and bigger valves, which improve airflow and help deliver better top-end performance.

    • The N160 4V variants also get a higher 10,900 RPM rev limit, which should make it feel a bit more thrilling to ride. However, its peak torque figure is slightly lower than the N160 2V.

    • The N160 2V delivers stronger bottom-and mid-range torque with a smooth power delivery. The N160 4V, on the other hand, is expected to feel more exciting at higher engine RPM.
