The R15 follows the design language of Yamaha’s larger R models. It has a sharp and aggressive design, which is not only good looking but also functionally suitable for road and track use. It uses Yamaha’s tried and tested Deltabox frame, which gives it sharp handling. It has LED lighting for the DRLs, taillight and headlight. However, the turn indicators are bulb-type halogen.
The RC 200 is sharp as well but with more angular bodywork, sculpted fuel tank, and a layered front fairing. The exposed trellis frame with bolt-on subframe and sharply styled tail section adds to its sporty appearance. It gets an all-LED lighting setup with front turn indicators neatly integrated with DRLs. It is offered in three colours: Black, Blue, Metallic Grey.

The R15 V4 is an exceptional engine in this regard, with its peak power output reserved at the higher end of the rev range the bike feels exciting despite being a 150 cc segment bike. The Variable Valve Timing (VVA) is a neat mechanical trick by Yamaha which ensures smooth power delivery and fuel efficiency at lower revs by switching the cam profile. And the engine bursts to life at higher revs (7,000+ rpm), again by switching the cam profile.
The KTM engine is no slouch either, it also reserves its peak output for high rpm riding. But the power output in itself is more than the R15 and therefore it feels more rewarding and exhilarating to ride. While it does lack VVA, it performs just fine in city rides and low rev commutes. The engine bursts to life much earlier in the rev range, at 6,000+ rpm, compared to the R15. Here are all the numerical figures and mechanical specs:
BikeDekho Says
The very best offerings from the entry-level sports bike segment, the KTM RC 200 and the Yamaha R15 V4. The R15’s lightweight chassis makes it an excellent handler, while the RC 200’s exhilarating performance makes it a very exciting bike. If you are a bit tight on budget and want an easy to handle bike, go for the R15 V4, and if you want more performance with an even more exciting engine, go for the RC 200.
