Hero MotoCorp Patents A New Dual-Sport Bike In India

Will this be a more affordable alternative to the Xpulse, or something else? Let's find out

Quick Highlights:

  • Appears to have a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup

  • Long travel suspension at both ends

  • Engine capacity and launch timeline not yet confirmed

Hero MotoCorp appears to be working on a new dual-sport motorcycle for the Indian market. The company has recently filed a patent for a motorcycle that features an adventure-focused design and hardware, although details about its engine and launch timeline are still unknown.

The patented motorcycle appears to have a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheel setup, same as the old Hero Impulse got, which is typical of dual-sport motorcycles. It also features long-travel suspension at both ends, with a conventional telescopic fork at the front and a monoshock at the rear. The fork is equipped with gaiters, adding to its off-road-focused appearance.

Design-wise, the motorcycle looks quite aggressive. It gets a sharp-looking headlight cowl with LED indicators, while the tank shrouds give it a sportier appearance. The side panels are relatively minimalistic, and there is a sizable luggage rack at the rear, making the bike look practical for touring and off-roading use.

The engine appears to be an air-cooled unit, as there is no visible oil cooler. However, the engine does feature prominent cooling fins. The exhaust is mounted on the side and follows a routing similar to what we have seen on the Hero Xpulse 200 4V. It is difficult to confirm the engine capacity at this stage. However, considering the current Indian motorcycle market, a sub-200cc engine may not make much sense for a motorcycle of this size and purpose. It could therefore get an engine around the 200cc mark or possibly larger.

Whether this motorcycle will eventually replace the Xpulse 200 4V remains unclear. For now, it is best viewed as a potential new addition to Hero MotoCorp’s dual-sport lineup. More details should emerge closer to its expected production and launch.
