The Yamaha R15 M could soon be discontinued in India, as per our dealer sources. The R15 V4 was also recently updated, and there’s the new R2 as well. This puts the R15 M in a very peculiar position.

The standard Yamaha R15 V4 is equipped with a 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that makes 18.4 PS and 14.2 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Yamaha has also recently made the quickshifter standard on select R15 V4 colour options. The bike gets an inverted fork and a linked monoshock. It rides on 17-inch wheels and gets disc brakes at both ends.
It is equipped with a 4.2-inch LCD console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS alerts. In terms of safety features, it gets dual-channel ABS as standard along with traction control.
While the R15 M is the same mechanically, there are differences in features and aesthetics. It gets a more modern-looking TFT console. Cosmetically, it gets different colours, The M variant also gets more attractive colours and a gold-coloured inverted fork, which gives it a more premium appeal. It costs about Rs 10,000 more for that.
Yamaha R15 M vs Yamaha R2
The Yamaha R2 costs Rs 39,970 more than the R15 M. For that extra money, you get a bigger 204cc engine which makes 8.1 PS and 4.9 Nm more, a bidirectional quickshifter, a bigger 5-inch TFT console along with 3 riding modes: Street, Sport & Rain.
The more expensive R2 M also gets adjustable suspension along with adjustable clutch and front brake levers.

At about Rs 10,000 more than the R15 V4, and about Rs 40,000 less than the R2, the R15 M is positioned slightly awkwardly considering the differences. If it’s discontinued, there’s a substantial difference of about Rs 50,000 between the R15 V4 and the R2. This clear demarcation makes for an easier choice in terms of performance, features, and aesthetics.
All said, bookings remain open for the R15 M, and there seem to be substantial stocks at the dealers. However, it’s likely that these could be part of the last batches on sale before discontinuation.

This bike is very good while daily riding is the main factor as the mileage is very good like 43 kmpl in city traffic and the maintenance cost is very low if you ride the bike properly. Also the road presence particularly of this edition is great. If you wish to look good while getting an optimum performance then you can definitely go for it. I had a brother who likes riding this old r15 and I was small and didn't knew any super bikes at all, and this was my first super bike which had all sharpnes at edges, the colour, the speed, it had some personality. Its been amazing bike so far, smooth, light weight. Its top speed is pretty good. It gives good mileage. It is very nice for long rides. Performance of the bike is so good. Suspensions works very well on road. Yes, for sure but take my opinion and explore different bike, It may have something that this bike wouldn't have that charm but you can go for it, if you want sporty look and a good racing bike.
