TVS Apache RTX 300 vs Kawasaki Versys-X 300: Detailed Comparison

We help you choose the best 300cc ADV for yourself

The TVS Apache RTX 300 and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 are two of the newest ADVs to enter the sub-300cc ADV market. The Apache RTX 300 is an all-new bike and is TVS’ first ever ADV. The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has been around for some time now and its latest updated version faces stiff competition from its Indian counterpart. So, how do the two compare against each other, at least on paper?

  • This could be a big factor in deciding the better option between the two

  • The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has a slightly longer wheelbase, which should give it better high-speed and straight-line stability.

  • The TVS Apache RTX 300 has a slightly higher ground clearance. This means it’s better equipped to deal with potholes and bad road conditions and the off-road trails.

  • The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has a much larger fuel tank, ensuring less frequent fuel stops while doing long-distance tours.

  • Kawasaki Versys-X 300’s seat is 20mm lower than the RTX, making it easier for shorter riders to get on or off the bike.

  • However, despite being 835mm tall, the RTX has a narrower profile. While the seat height may seem tall on paper, the seat is slim enough for shorter riders to keep their feet flat on the ground, just like on the Versys.

  • Also, the Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is 5kg lighter than the RTX 300, which should make it easier to handle in heavy traffic areas.

  • In terms of design, the TVS Apache RTX 300 looks fresh and sharp with clean design lines.

  • The bike’s muscular design means it commands attention on the road.

  • The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 has the sleeker design out of the two and follows the function-over-form philosophy. And, the Candy Lime Green/Metallic Flat Spark Black complements it perfectly. That said, the overall design has remained largely unchanged over the years and needs a re-touch, in our opinion.

  • The TVS Apache RTX 300’s longer wheel travel at the front and the rear should make it better equipped to handle bad roads and potholes.

  • Both bikes get dual-channel ABS, but the RTX has a much longer feature list.

  • The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is a basic bike in terms of the features on offer. It gets an analogue tachometer with an LCD screen that houses the gear position indicator, speedometer, odometer and clock. It misses out on Bluetooth connectivity and all-LED lighting.
  • The TVS Apache RTX 300 is the clear winner in this category with a TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity for navigation, call and SMS alerts. It also gets all-LED lighting, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), cruise control, 3 ABS modes, 2-level traction control and 4 riding modes: Urban, Rain, Tour and Rally.

  • Both bikes are powered by similarly sized engines. But the biggest difference lies in the number of cylinders.

  • The Kawasaki Versys-X 300’s engine offers that smooth and stable performance expected from a twin-cylinder engine. It’s got good low-end and mid-range grunt too.

  • The TVS Apache RTX 300’s single-cylinder engine is calm, tractable and refined. The power delivery is linear, and the acceleration is smooth as well. The engine can handle low speeds of 35-40kmph in 3rd or 4th gear easily as well as high speeds of about 100kmph with ease.
  • Both bikes come equipped with a slipper clutch. So, shifting through the gears feels breezy.

Verdict

As we have seen above, both ADVs are able to handle touring and off-roading duties with their own unique flavour. The Kawasaki Versys-X 300 is the lighter and more agile ADV out of the two. Also, it has the quintessential smoothness of a twin-cylinder engine. But on the flip side, it has a very steep price tag and a fairly basic features list. So, if you don’t mind paying the extra bucks, and are okay with the minimalist features, then you can take a look at the Kawasaki Versys-X 300.

The TVS Apache RTX 300 is the clear overall winner in this comparison. It has an affordable price tag, a striking design that looks modern, comfortable ergonomics for long distance touring, a smooth, tractable engine, and an extensive features list. If you are looking for your sub-300cc ADV, then the TVS Apache RTX 300 is the one for you. Planning to buy the TVS Apache RTX 300? User Reviews

One of the best above 300 cc bike you can have.

For my inter state rides as I currently live in Ranchi but my home city is Chaibasa so I have to travel between these city a lot and this bike feels best when I ride for a longer distance. The major reason was the height of the bike, as I am 6.1 ft 24M, it is the best height bike for me. As I can feel that this bike is not for daily commuters as it is quite big for the Indian roads but the whole seen changes when you ride it on highways. I feel confident while riding this, one of my cousin have RE Himalayan and when compared to it, this bike feel more agile and is more practical. I would recommend this bike to only those who wants to have a best all rounder bike as it has best in the market technical specs, (even I have not fully explored all the modes of the bike thus far), it feels confident to ride on in many situations. And to top it all off, it has best engine as both BMW and TVS came together in this. Read More

Versys X 300 – Chhoti si badi bike!

2024 mein li thi yeh bike, ab 18,000+ km chal chuki hai. Highway, ghat, off-road, city – har jagah leke gaya hoon. Engine 39 bhp ka lagta hai chhota par actual mein bohot refined hai, 400-500 km aaram se nikal jaati hai (28-32 kmpl real mileage). Seat thoda hard hai 300+ km ke baad thakan lagti hai, Suspension adventure bike jaisa kaam karta hai. Ground clearance. Brakes decent hain, dual-channel ABS bacha leta hai emergency mein. Cons bhi hain – 6th gear mein 100-120 ke upar thoda vibration aata hai Stock tyres (Metzeler) off-road mein slip kar jaate hain. Service cost thoda high hai Kawasaki ka. Par overall ₹4 - 5 lakh on-road mein jo package milta hai – looks, touring capability, reliability – us hisaab se full paisa vasool bike hai. Agar aap beginner ho ya weekend mein long rides karte ho aur ek lightweight adventure tourer chahte ho, toh dil se recommend karunga.Read More
