In our latest acceleration test, we compared three popular middleweight motorcycles: the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450, Triumph Speed 400, and Hero Mavrick 440. With each bike aimed at a different segment of the market, we tested their 0-100kmph sprint to see how they stack up against each other. Here’s how they fared in this head-to-head battle.
Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450: Leading the pack
Price: Rs 2.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 took the top spot in our acceleration test and completed the 0-100kmph sprint in 6.23 seconds, thanks to its powerful Sherpa 450 engine which ensures a quick launch off the line, making it the fastest of the three bikes to hit the 100 kmph mark. The Guerrilla 450 from its 452cc single cylinder liquid-cooled engine makes 40PS @8000rpm and 40Nm @5500rpm, it has a kerb weight of 185kg.
Triumph Speed 400: Close, but not quite there
Price: Rs 2.34 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)
Coming in a close second, the Triumph Speed 400 did the 0-100kmph in just 7.13 seconds. The Speed 400's lightweight frame and the 398cc single cylinder liquid-cooled engine makes 40PS @8000rpm and 37.5Nm @6500rpm. The Triumph Speed is the lightest motorcycle of the bunch with a kerb weight of just 176kg. While it didn’t outpace the Royal Enfield, its timing was not far off, proving it to be an excellent choice for those looking for premium quality with punchy performance.

Finishing last in the test was the Hero Mavrick 440 which did the 0-100kmph sprint in 9.20 seconds. The Hero Mavrick’s 440cc single cylinder air-/oil-cooled engine makes 27PS @6000rpm and 36Nm @4000rpm and is the least powerful engine of the three bikes, and so it couldn’t match the rapid pace of the Guerrilla 450 or Speed 400. The kerb weight of the Hero Mavrick is also the highest and stands at 187kg. The Mavrick 440 remains an excellent commuter as the engine does have adequate power for everyday rides, but it is clearly more suited for cruising than rapid acceleration.
Conclusion
While all three cater to different customers, the Guerrilla 450, Speed 400 and Hero Mavrick 440 fall in the 400cc roadster motorcycle segment. So if you are looking for something that is quick, then the Guerrilla 450 is for you. If you want a bike that looks, feels and screams premium, and offers great performance then the Triumph Speed 400 could be your pick. And if you want something that’s muscular, reliable and just a great commuter, then the Mavrick 400 will fit the bill for you.

An excellent bike with solid engine. It has that attractiveness to fall in love. Compact size, big blast. I choose to experience this machine for its style, liquid cooled engine, TFT display, suspension and everything. Long rides does not feel boring on this machine. It definitely give good comfort, mileage depends on situation, 17-22 in traffic and 23-27 on highway. The torque it generates is just fabulous. It has given me upper hand in drag races. Would definitely recommend this bike to teenagers and those riders who wants to experience the feeling of driving Himalayan. Unique road presence and smoothness of the engine was the main attraction of the bike . I really love the bike's raw power and stands different unlike other Royal enfields.I personally recommend to have a ride on this bike. It's was decent and smooth vehicle, covered almost 300 km in a single ride and it's was comfortable for me along with pillion. We enjoyed and got lots of fun with friends. I recommend this bike for touring. I like this bike personally and recommend this every fella, who want to ride a different machine with power.
