Top 5 Bestselling Scooters In May 2021 - Honda Activa, Suzuki Access, And More

Japanese manufacturers have once again prevailed over the indigenous ones

Japanese manufacturers have once again prevailed over the indigenous ones

The fifth month of 2021 saw most Indian cities going under lockdowns following the surge in COVID-19 cases. Consequently, scooter sales took a hit, as revealed by May’s SIAM report. Take a look at the five bestselling scooters from it:

Model

Units Sold

Honda Activa

17,006

Suzuki Access 125

9,706

TVS Jupiter

6,153

TVS NTorq

4,337

Suzuki Burgman Street

2,745

Taking the top spot, as usual, is the trusted Honda Activa. Even though SIAM doesn’t tell us the individual sales numbers of the Activa 6G and Activa 125, we’re pretty sure the bulk of the contribution comes from the former.

Bridesmaid to the Activa is its arch-rival, the Suzuki Access 125. With 9,706 units sold, it was the highest-selling 125cc scooter in May by a mile, a feat that it has achieved numerous times in the past too.

At the third and fourth spots, we have the TVS Jupiter and NTorq, respectively. Both these scooters are the only indigenous offerings here, and they are slowly but surely catching up with the Japanese offerings.

A surprise entry in the list is the Suzuki Burgman Street. It is arguably the finest maxi-styled scooter in India, blending sporty styling with modern-day features -- all at a price much lower than its direct rivals.

Now that the country has started opening up, we expect to see a rapid surge in these numbers in the SIAM report for June. Will there be a change in the standings? Watch this space to find out!

Looks like classic and design is too good. comfort is excellent, overall nice experience. Universally trusted, relaxed and stable city ride. With its smooth linear acceleration (ideal between 40-70 km/h), effortless automatic CVT transmission and comfortable upright seating. It dominates Indian roads. People tell me that I'm a lil' too cuckoo about two-wheelers and I can't seem to disagree.
