The recent GST reforms have brought a major relief for motorcycle buyers in India, especially for those looking at models under the 350cc category. The GST rate for this segment has been reduced from 28% to 18%, which means that bikes in this category will now be significantly cheaper. To put this into perspective, for a motorcycle priced at Rs 1 lakh, buyers can save about Rs 10,000 just from the reduced tax.

The GST reforms have made motorcycles under 350cc far more affordable. This has strengthened the commuter and mid-capacity motorcycle space, which together form the backbone of India’s two-wheeler industry. This GST change clearly separates the market. As smaller capacity two-wheelers are now more affordable, making them more accessible to regular buyers. On the other hand, bigger bikes are getting more expensive, as the government now sees them as luxury items. This has surely disappointed bike enthusiasts. Since the change comes right before the festive season, demand for budget-friendly bikes is likely to grow, while sales of premium models will drop.
