Thailand-based custom house K-Speed has transformed the retro-modern bike to a terrain-taming beast!

Retro-modern motorcycles are inherently versatile for endless customising options. Yamaha recently made waves by launching an affordable classic bike with modern mechanicals - the XSR155 - in Thailand. It was only a matter of time before someone modified the hell out of the motorcycle and not surprisingly, K-Speed, a Thailand-based custom house, has come up with one beautiful mod job.

This custom XSR155 looks nothing like the stock motorcycle except for the obvious bits like the frame, swingarm and digital instrument cluster. Even the fuel tank has been replaced with a custom unit which comes with nicely-done mesh panels. The fuel tank has just the right amount of paint fade here and there to make it look as spartan as possible. K-Speed has employed a custom subframe which holds the minimalistic yet premium-looking rider’s seat and a small luggage rack. Complementing the tail section is a beautifully crafted twin underseat heat-wrapped exhaust setup with a small LED tail light in between.

For added protection, the mod house has fabricated a custom full-length crash guard which protects pretty much everything on the side. There are twin auxiliary lamps mounted on the crash guard for better illumination in case the aftermarket twin LED headlamps aren’t powerful enough.

As far as the mechanicals are concerned, the bike comes with Brembo calipers on both ends with new rotors. The front fork and the swingarm feature fork spools to hold the bike during maintenance and the fork angle appears to be a little raked out as well. At the rear, the linked monoshock has been replaced with an aftermarket unit. To help the bike traverse harsh terrains, the alloy wheels as well as the with dual-purpose rubber have been chucked in favour of spoke wheels shod with fat Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres.

It remains to be seen whether the custom house has tinkered with the engine. To give you a fair idea, the bike comes with the same VVA-equipped engine as the MT-15, which makes 19.3PS and 14.7Nm. Interestingly, at the launch of the XSR155, Yamaha also showcased three custom concepts and you can read all about them here.
