The Japanese brand has created not one but three different custom iterations of the XSR155!

  • The Yamaha XSR155 was launched late last week in Thailand.
  • A custom tracker, scrambler and a cafe racer have been made out of the same bike.
  • All three bikes feature extensive changes to their bodywork and underpinnings.

Yamaha launched the XSR155, a neo-retro motorcycle based on the MT-15, in Thailand recently. The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer also showcased customised versions of the same bike in not one but three different avatars! Here’s what they are all about:

Custom cafe racer:

The Yamaha XSR155-based custom cafe racer comes with a brushed metal finish on the bodywork. The front end is dominated by a distinctly retro-looking cafe racer cowl and extremely lowered clip-on handlebars. To complete the aggressive riding stance, the stock seats have been replaced with a single cafe racer-style seat with a cowl at the rear, and the footpeg position has been moved further back. In fact, the rider’s footpegs are where the standard bike’s pillion footpeg are positioned! Other cosmetic changes include a chopped front fender, engine cowl with brushed metal finish and chromed-out wheels.

For optimum performance around the race track, the bike features slick tyres on both ends and the brakes have been upgraded to petal discs. These discs are clamped by Brembo calipers with braided hoses.

Custom scrambler:

This first thing you’d notice about the custom scrambler is its rugged-looking knobby tyres wrapped on spoke wheels. Apart from this, the bike also features a minimalistic bodywork with LED lighting, a raised front fender, a custom peanut-shaped fuel tank, raised handlebars with bracing and a bench seat. Just like the cafe racer, this motorcycle also gets Brembo calipers but they are mounted on conventional discs on both ends. That said, the inverted fork and linked monoshock appear to be stock. Another notable touch is the custom high-set exhaust which has been routed from inside the frame.

Custom flat tracker:

This custom flat tracker based on the Yamaha XSR155 comes with the legendary racing livery inspired by Kenny Roberts, an American motorcycle racer. To suit its purpose, the bike gets a flat and wide handlebar for extra leverage as well as custom fuel tank, side panels, seat and tail section. There are racing numbers on the sides, and the headlight has also been ditched to show off the race number. The bike also gets a one-to-two high-set exhausts with the panel for the race number doubling up as a heat shield. While the suspension appears to be stock units, they get fork guards to protect it from dirt. The spoke wheels are shod with fat dual-purpose tyres, which should allow some sideways fun.

While Yamaha offers a range of official accessories for the XSR155, these custom bikes really take the style and functionality quotient of the stock bike to whole new levels!
