The exhaust system is nothing like we’ve ever seen on a Royal Enfield

The Himalayan 450 has been spotted testing once again, and this time, spy shots captured by Bibin Benny Mathew shows the design of the exhaust system for the first time.

The exhaust design looks unlike any we’ve seen on a Royal Enfield motorcycle. The upswept stubby unit may keep the mass centralised, it may not offer as good water wading capabilities as the Himlayan, as the latter has a full-length upswept unit. That said, the much shorter exhaust on the 450 could help in saving weight. It is likely that Royal Enfield is experimenting with different exhaust designs, and this may not be the final one.

Talking about the Himalayan 450, it will get a new liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, displacing around 450cc, possibly producing around 40PS and 40Nm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed transmission as seen on the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650. It’s also said to get ride-by-wire throttle and riding modes.

On the features front, the test mule was spotted with a new semi-digital instrument pod along with LED indicators. We’re expecting Royal Enfield to equip the bike with tripper navigation along with smartphone connectivity.

As to the underpinnings, long travel  inverted front forks were spotted along with a linked monoshock at the rear. The front brake on the mule appeared to be slightly larger too, possibly a 320mm unit.

The 21-inch front and 17-inch rear spoke wheels will reportedly be wrapped with Ceat dual-purpose tyres, designed for the tarmac as well as the dirt.

Not only that, the Chennai-based manufacturer is also working on an even more hardcore variant, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Raid. You can read more about it here.

It’s likely that the Himalayan 450 will be a replacement to the existing Royal Enfield Himalayan, leaving the Scram 411 as the more affordable offering. We are expecting the Himalayan 450 to be launched by mid-2023. If you’re looking for similar motorcycles, you can also check out the KTM 390 Adventure and the upcoming Hero 450 ADV
