Honda Activa 125 vs Hero Destini 125: Which One Wins?
Here’s a full specification-wise comparison between the two

The Honda Activa is the king of scooters in India, more specifically in the 110cc segment. In the 125cc segment, it faces tough competition as it tries to build on its sibling’s reputation in the lower capacity segment. As such, Honda has updated the Activa 125 with modern and premium features to make it stand out against its competitors. The Hero Destini 125 got a major facelift and few crucial updates last year that has made it quite appealing to its prospective customers. But how do the two scooters compare against each other, on paper? Let’s take a look:

Both the Honda Activa 125 and the Hero Destini 125 are family-oriented scooters, so spirited performance is not to be expected from them. The Destini 125 offers a better power output at a comparatively higher-end of the rev range. This means that the Destini 125 should offer more engaging performance and will be able to handle higher speeds more easily. That said, both scooters offer linear and refined performance and if you like a bit of bite in your family scooters, then the Destini 125 should be more appealing to you in this department.

There isn’t a lot separating the two scooters on paper when it comes to their underpinnings, except for one key difference: wheel size. The Honda Activa 125 gets a 10-inch rear wheel, while the Hero Destini 125 runs on a larger 12-inch rear wheel. The bigger wheel gives the Destini 125 an advantage in terms of stability and grip. As a result, at higher cruising speeds of around 75-80kmph, the Hero Destini 125 should feel more planted than the Activa 125, and also a bit more confidence-inspiring when leaned over through corners.

The Hero Destini 125’s better straight line stability can be attributed to its slightly longer wheelbase compared to the Activa 125. Ground clearance is the same on both scooters, making them equally equipped to deal with rough roads and potholes. On the comfort front, the Hero Destini 125’s longer seat gives it an edge, making it easier for two adults to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. But when it comes to navigating through traffic, the Activa 125’s lower kerb weight should make it feel a bit more agile and easier to handle.

Both the Honda Activa 125 and the Hero Destini 125 are very similar in terms of the features on offer. But the Activa 125 gets the upper hand here because of the 4.2-inch TFT instrument console that shows speedometer, odometer, tachometer, trip meter, clock, fuel gauge and mobile battery level readouts and supports Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation. The Destini 125’s console also supports Bluetooth connectivity for call and SMS alerts and turn-by-turn navigation along with showing speedometer, odometer, clock, fuel gauge and trip meter readouts. But the console is an LCD unit instead of the TFT unit on the Activa 125. One standout feature on the Destini 125 are the self-cancelling indicators, which are a segment first and make the scooter look very premium.

Based on the two scooters’ spec sheets, the Honda Activa 125 should be more agile to handle, and trumps out its competitor in the features department. The Hero Destini 125 should offer slightly better performance, more overall stability, and better comfort for both rider and pillion. If you are in the market for a 125cc family scooter that ticks all the previously-mentioned boxes and is also quite affordable than the Activa 125 (Rs 5,155 - Rs 7,877 across the different variants), then the Hero Destini 125 is the one for you. If you are looking for a 125cc family scooter that offers refined performance, premium features and the reliability of the Honda and Activa badges, then the Activa 125 is the one for you.
