Harley-Davidson’s Two New e-Bike Concepts Seen In Action

Just a few years back, enthusiasts would've scoffed at the thought of associating Harley-Davidson with anything electric. But times have changed and so has the Milwaukee-based company. With the LiveWire leading the charge of its electric lineup, the company has now showcased two more electric bike prototypes ahead of the X Games in Austin this week. One of these is targeted towards urban use while the other is a purpose-built mountain bike.

The urban bike reminds us of a pit bike at first, small enough to go fit in tight places without any hassle. The design has been kept minimal, with straight lines and a round LED ring at the front. It also gets fat tyres at both ends.
The second concept, on the other hand, is designed to be a mountain bike, replete with studded knobby tyres and an overall lightweight appearance.
On both the bikes, Harley has tucked the battery lower into the frame to keep the design clean. While we don't know any specifications yet, we do know that the battery is designed to be removable and remotely charged.
Both the electric bikes were put up to their paces by X Games gold medallist Kacko Strong and X Games host Jack Mitrani. While the urban bike is supposed to be "very light and easy to ride" Strong mentioned that the off-road electric bike "felt right at home." Both Strong and Mitrani raved about the instant torque available from the ground up and the lack of clutch.

As fun as seeing them on the road right now would be, both the e-bikes are still in pre-production prototype stage. However, unlike the LiveWire, which comes at a hefty price of USD 29,799 (approx Rs 21 lakh), the two e-bikes will be a part of Harley's more affordable electric lineup.
