Triumph Bonneville T4 Vs Bonneville Speed T4: Differences Explained

Retro Bonneville styling or a minimalist sporty roadster? Both are affordable in their respective lineup, but here's what sets them apart

Triumph has launched the new Triumph Bonneville T4 in India, as the most accessible way into the iconic Bonneville lineup. But there's another budget-friendly roadster in Triumph's lineup that sits alongside it: the Triumph Speed T4. Both run on the same 350cc TR Series single-cylinder engine and make the same 29PS, so you might wonder why one costs about Rs 45,000 more.

We’ve compared them by price, features, and design:

Design And Styling

The Bonneville T4 follows the classic Bonneville styling. It has a teardrop fuel tank, a round LED headlight, a peashooter silencer, twin rear shocks, and spoked wheels. Triumph has paid a lot of attention to detail to ensure it looks as classy as the bigger Bonnevilles. The colours are Phantom Black, Carnival Red and Competition Green.

The Speed T4 goes for a cleaner, more modern look. It does have a hint of retro elements especially with the minimalist bodywork and round headlight, but overall it still leans on being more modern. The cast alloy wheels, upswept, muscular exhaust, and the rear monoshock make the back end make it look the part of a modern roadster. The brand offers a dual-tone colour scheme for this one, including Caspian Blue with Pearl Metallic White and Lava Red Gloss with Pearl Metallic White.

Features And Tech

This is also where the two bikes differ most. The Bonneville T4 gets a circular 4-inch colour LCD with turn-by-turn navigation, plus phone and music controls. It also comes with three riding modes, dual-channel ABS and traction control. Navigation on the display means you can leave your phone in your pocket.

The Speed T4 keeps things simple. You get a dual-format cluster with analogue speedometer and digital tachometer and other readouts. We’d have liked it if it had an analogue tachometer instead.  That said, there’s no connectivity of any sort, so no navigation either. It also doesn’t have traction control, but has dual-channel ABS. It’s a little ironic that the Bonneville that’s meant to be more retro actually has more modern features. So it’s just a matter of time before the T4 also gets updated with some of these goodies.

On paper, the engines are close. The Bonneville's power peaks 500rpm earlier, at 7,000rpm against 7,500rpm. Triumph says it has a dedicated tune with more torque lower in the rev range. The Speed T4 keeps it subtle with a completely matte black engine casing whereas the Bonneville T4 gets a premium brushed metal finish. Here are the differences in the underpinnings:

The Speed T4 is 15kg lighter, so it should be easier to move around in tight spaces. Its seat is 16mm taller, though, so shorter riders should sit on both bikes first to see which one’s more accessible. The Bonneville T4 carries 1.5 litres more fuel, which should give it a little more range.

Price & Verdict

Speed T4

Rs 2,10,158

Bonneville T4

Rs 2,54,999

The Rs 44,841 gap pays for the Bonneville premium styling, the navigation display, and the extra rider aids. In our opinion, the premium is worth it if you’re a big fan of tastefully done retro bikes with performance to boot. You’ll just have to wait a bit as the delivery of the Triumph Bonneville T4 is scheduled to start from the second week of January 2027.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for an affordable, but still reasonably premium neo-retro roadster, then the Speed T4 is pretty competitive. Sure you miss out on connectivity, and fancy rider aids, but for most that wouldn’t be a deal-breaker.
