Yamaha YZF-R2: Same Price Other Options

The Yamaha YZF-R2 is the brand’s latest supersport offering, which was recently launched in India at a starting price of Rs 2,31,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi). It gets a brand-new engine, chassis, and a host of new features. If you are planning to buy one, here are 5 bikes in the same price range that you can consider:

KTM RC 200 - Rs 2,31,678

If you want something with a similar sporty riding experience and stylish looks, the KTM RC 200 is worth considering. It is the Yamaha R2’s main rival and is equipped with a 199.5cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 25 PS and 19.2 Nm, which is 1.5 PS more and 0.1 Nm less than the Yamaha R2. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. However, unlike the R2, the RC 200 does not get a quickshifter.

In terms of underpinnings, the bike gets WP Apex inverted fork and a monoshock, along with disc brakes at both ends.

For features, the RC 200 gets a 5-inch LCD console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call/SMS alerts. It also gets dual-channel ABS as a safety feature.

TVS Apache RTR 310 - Rs 2,29,990

If you want something that is more powerful but has more relaxed ergonomics, the TVS Apache RTR 310 could be an option. It is powered by a 312.12cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 35.6 PS and 28.7 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Higher variants of the bike also get a bidirectional quickshifter.

The bike is equipped with an inverted fork and a monoshock, along with disc brakes at both ends. The BTO (Built To Order) variant also gets fully adjustable suspension.

In terms of features, the Apache RTR 310 gets a 5-inch TFT console with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alerts, multiple riding modes, and cruise control. It also gets dual-channel ABS, traction control, and a hazard light switch.

Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 - Rs 2,29,000

If you are craving some adventure and want a bike that can handle highway touring as well as weekend trails, the recently launched Himalayan 440 makes a lot of sense. It gets a 443cc single-cylinder air/oil-cooled engine that makes 25.4 PS and 34 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The engine prioritises torque over outright performance, which should also make it easy to ride in the city.

It gets long-travel suspension at both ends, with an inverted fork and a monoshock. It rides on a 21-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel, with disc brakes at both ends.

In terms of features, the Himalayan 440 gets a semi-digital instrument console with an analogue speedometer and a digital insert that shows essential information such as fuel level, gear position indicator, trip meter, and odometer. It also gets a Tripper navigation pod as standard, which enables Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation.

The bike gets dual-channel ABS as standard but misses out on features such as traction control and a hazard light switch.

Ultraviolette X47 Crossover - Rs 2,49,000

If you are looking for something completely different from the petrol-powered YZF-R2, the Ultraviolette X47 Crossover is an interesting electric alternative. It is equipped with a 7.1 kWh battery pack paired with a mid-mounted electric motor that makes 27 kW and 100 Nm (both peak). It has a claimed IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of 211 km and a top speed of 145 kmph.

In terms of underpinnings, the X47 gets an inverted fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock, along with disc brakes at both ends. It also gets dual-channel switchable ABS and traction control.

For features, the X47 gets a 5-inch touchscreen TFT console with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, and call/SMS alerts. It also gets multiple riding modes, hill-hold assist, and reverse assist. Higher variants also get a radar-based ADAS system.

Triumph Speed 400 - Rs 2,34,140

If you want a premium-feeling motorcycle with neo-retro looks, the Triumph Speed 400 is worth considering. It is powered by a 349cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine that makes 37.5 PS and 32 Nm, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

In terms of underpinnings, the bike gets a 43 mm inverted fork and a monoshock, along with disc brakes at both ends. It also gets dual-channel ABS and traction control as standard.

For features, the Speed 400 gets a semi-digital instrument console with an analogue speedometer and a digital tachometer. However, the bike misses out on Bluetooth connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation, which we feel Triumph should add in a future update to make it more appealing.
