Mandatory 5-year insurance policy reason behind the price hike

  • Ather 450 and 350 receive a hike of Rs 3,480.
  • Hike includes a Rs 500 cess that the Karnataka government has imposed for road safety.
  • The scooters will be available in Chennai by June.

Ather Energy has bumped up the prices of the Ather 450 and 340 by Rs 3,480. The resultant on-road price in Bangalore stands at Rs 1,28,230 for the Ather 450 while the 340 now costs Rs 1,13,230. This includes a cross of Rs 500 that the Karnataka government has imposed on all vehicles towards improving road safety.

As it has become mandatory for two-wheelers to have a five-year insurance policy at the time of sale, Ather has had to bump up its final price. Also, details regarding the scooters adhering to FAME II subsidy are yet to be revealed, which will also cause a change in the price in the near future. But after speaking with company officials, we have learnt that the subsidy received will be more than the previous Rs 22,000 and will directly be passed on to the end buyer. In related news, Ather has announced that it will be introducing its scooters in Chennai by June this year.

In case you are unaware of what the Ather packs, the 450 and 340 come with a brushless DC motor and a self-developed battery pack and management system. The 450, being the more powerful option of the two, can go from 0-40kmph in 3.9 seconds with a top speed capped off at 80kmph. It also has a realistic range of 55-75km on a single charge.
