Ather Project Redux Vs Ola Diamondhead: Battle Of The Concept Electric Bikes

Both of these electric two-wheelers are still in their concept stages, but they showcase just how different the future of EV design can look. While the Ather Redux takes the form of a sporty scooter packed with tech, the Ola Diamondhead goes all-in on being a futuristic electric motorcycle. Here’s how the two stack up against each other:

Design

The Ather Redux looks quite unconventional; its sharp body panels, large wheels and slick tyres give it an almost motorcycle-like stance. Details such as the ‘Redux’ graphics, a pointed fairing and a high-set tail light make it look aggressive and futuristic. The 3D-printed seat and the use of new lightweight composite materials for the body highlight its experimental approach.

The Ola Diamondhead gets a diamond-shaped fairing, a continuous LED strip running across the front and clip-on handlebars that underline its sporty intent. The design is bold and radical, meant to stand out, and Ola has kept it close to the original concept sketch.

Motor And Battery

Ather has not revealed exact details about the Redux’s motor and battery, but has hinted at triple-digit speeds and a triple-digit range. The emphasis is clearly on blending futuristic tech with performance.

Ola, on the other hand, has shown a mid-mounted electric motor for the Diamondhead that drives the rear wheel using a chain. The battery sits in the chassis where a petrol engine would normally be placed, Ola is also working on making its own battery packs.

Underpinnings

The Redux uses a cast aluminium frame with an inverted fork and a monoshock. What makes it even more unique is the electronically adjustable suspension, which lowers the bike when the rider switches to a more committed posture. Even the footpegs and handlebar adjust automatically based on the riding posture.

The Diamondhead goes for an unconventional hub-centre steering setup with oversized swingarms at both ends. This is unusual for production motorcycles but fits the futuristic nature of the bike. It also uses alloy wheels wrapped in tubeless tyres and is expected to get a belt or chain drive.

Features

Ather has packed the Redux with concept-level tech. It promises a completely keyless experience, a Morph-UI console that changes its position with rider ergonomics, throttle vibration alerts and even a launch control system called “Take Off.”

The Ola Diamondhead is expected to get a completely digital console and rider aids like traction control and ABS. While Ola has not revealed the entire features list yet, the bike is being pitched as a premium performance EV, so modern safety and connectivity features should be part of the package.
