Ather 450X Long Term Report: Saying Goodbye

Here’s how my entire month with the Ather 450X went

After spending a month with ‘my’ 2025 Ather 450X (3.7kWh, Stealth Blue), it’s time to return the keys and reflect on the full experience. My time with it was a mix of excitement, quirks, and a few niggles - but overall, the Ather stood out as one of the most engaging scooters I’ve ridden.

It’s Magic, It’s Magic!

Within just a week, the ‘Magic Twist’ feature had completely altered my riding habits. By the end of the month, I found myself unconsciously trying to twist the throttle backwards on other bikes - including my own Speed 400 and the other long termer we had at the office - a TVS Jupiter 110. That’s how subconscious the regenerative braking became in my everyday riding. I barely touched the brakes in regular traffic, with Magic Twist handling most speed adjustments smoothly.

Still Can’t ‘Warp’ My Head Around It

I ended up living mostly in Warp mode, simply because it made every commute exciting. Acceleration was so instant and thrilling that my Triumph Speed 400 felt sluggish in comparison - ouch. Smart Eco mode was useful when needed, and credit where it’s due - the range numbers were laser accurate: 85km in Warp, 125km in Smart Eco. That said, Smart Eco mode felt inconsistent - sometimes sluggish, sometimes surprisingly peppy. It was almost like a confused split between Eco and Ride - something Ather needs to definitely refine.

Compromised Ergonomics

The firm suspension forced me to slow down to a crawl over potholes and speed breakers - as low as 10kmph. Read here in my Ather 450X introduction report how I thought it was actually soft at first - due to my own foolishness. Adding a pillion made things a little bit better, at least ride quality wise. But with the short footboard, high set footpegs for the pillion, cramped seat, and weird seat slope made two-up rides uncomfortable. Even solo, the constant sliding forward under braking was a mild but persistent annoyance.

Nobody’s Perfect

I grew to enjoy the sharp rear brake of the Ather electric scooter for playful slides, though the front brake’s vague feel and feedback always felt like something was off. Most of my braking continued to be handled by Magic Twist. Ather should really add dual-channel ABS to such an expensive scooter to up the safety quotient. The 22-litre underseat storage space looks large on paper, but the odd shape means fitting things into it is a task - and forget it if you plan to carry the 'portable' charger around with you.

Mo’ Screen, Mo’ Problems

The Ather 450X's screen also had a One Plus minor issue: two horizontal lines or a vertical line appeared when going over any sort of road undulations. While it didn’t affect touchscreen functionality, it certainly took away from the premium feel. Speaking of which, the touchscreen itself was a joy to use - it worked flawlessly even with riding gloves on.

Having The World At My Fingertips

One of the biggest and best highlights of this electric scooter was the Google Maps integration which wroked flawlessly with the touchscreen. It works just like it would on your smartphone - enter a destination and set directions from your current location. The scooter having an in-built e-sim (internet and location access at all times) also means you don't need to connect your phone via Bluetooth. All of this let me explore Pune a lot more without constantly stopping and having to check my phone. For someone new to the city (just 7 months in) - this was a huge convenience and easily one of my favourite features.

Range Anxiety? Absolutely

The only genuinely stressful moment came after 3 idle days, the scooter sat unused and lost around 3% charge per day doing nothing. The blame’s on me as on the 17th of June, I left home with 9km showing in Smart Eco and the scooter literally died 50m before my office parking. Thankfully, I could coast it into the spot, but it was a nerve-wracking ride that highlighted the quirks of idle battery drain (insert the proverb - a bad worker always blames his tools).

Some Goodbyes Are The Hardest

After logging a total of 325 km during my 16 active riding days (I wasn't in Pune from 24 May to 8 June), I walked away impressed but also aware of the scooter’s compromises. Warp mode, Magic Twist, and the amount of features make it a genuinely fun and futuristic scooter. But the stiff ride, quirky Smart Eco behaviour, some quality niggles (like the screen lines) prevent it from being flawless. Still, if you want a two-wheeler that puts a smile on your face every day, the Ather 450X delivers that in spades - just don’t expect it to be absolutely perfect.

  • Kilometre reading on arrival: 296.9km

  • Kilometre reading on return: 622.3km

  • Pros: Warp mode acceleration, Magic Twist, accurate range, practical boot, touchscreen works with gloves, Google Maps convenience

  • Cons: Stiff ride, uncomfortable pillion experience, quirky Smart Eco, idle charge drain, brake feel, screen line glitches

User Reviews

My opinion

It has clean finishing good looking, thin having, good mileage, having better features than any other petrol scooter, it is electric vehicle it is sports scooter so it has modes too fast charging service centre is available. I had done something around 12000 km driven this scooter for long ride it isn't good it is slightly uncomfortable it could give you back pain and scooter may could get heat if you are riding in the summer weather. This scooter isn't for long ride but if you want this for going to college, school or for work it's good vehicle. This scooter looks attractive and has good enough speed to reach the destination. Its good scooter you can go for it if you want. Read More

Way Better Than I Expected!

Honestly, it was the Warp mode and the sheer acceleration. I wanted the quickest scooter on the road. The 'regenerative braking was very good in traffic areas. The transparent panels look sharp, too.. Overall its worth these performance is very impressive as it claims. Hitting 80-100 km/h is instant and effortless. On the highway, it holds its speed well, but you definitely have to stick to Eco/Ride mode to get a usable range. The Magic Twist feature is a game changer for stop-and-go traffic. Yes, I would recommend it, but only for the right person. Buy it if you love performance, want a premium, feature packed experience, and mostly use it for city or short distance highway travel. Don't buy it if range anxiety is a major concern, or if you are on a tight budget it's expensive and some features are behind a subscription. Read More
