Yamaha has launched the 2022 YZF-R3 in Taiwan with new colours

Yamaha Taiwan has launched the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R3 in the country in new colour schemes. The faired bike comes in a new Vivid Orange colour option, replacing the Electric Teal Light Green colour in the 2021 model. The other two already existing colours – Racing Blue and Midnight Black – receive minor tweaks in the liveries.

The 2022 Yamaha R3 retails at TWD 270,000, which translates to a whopping Rs 7.18 lakh! It may be appropriate for Taiwanese economy, but that’s still a lot for what at the end of the day is a 300-odd cc faired bike. The 2022 Yamaha R3 also comes with LED indicators replacing the bulb ones. More importantly, the 321cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine now churns out 41PS (same as before), and 29.41Nm, 0.98Nm more than before. Compared to the 2021 model, the 2022 Yamaha R3 also weighs 1kg less, at 170kg kerb.

The rest of the bike remains unchanged. The 2022 R3 employs an inverted fork up front, linked rear monoshock, 298mm front and 200mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS. The bike also gets a full LCD instrument cluster, which, in our opinion, should’ve been updated with a TFT unit with smartphone connectivity to keep up with the modern times.

Summing up, the new colour scheme is a welcome addition to an already capable motorcycle. We just wish Yamaha was a bit more proactive in equipping the bike with more updated consoles. And before you ask, there is a chance Yamaha will launch the R3 in India sometime later this year. If you’re not willing to wait, then you can take a look at the feature-packed TVS Apache RR 310, or the premium yet long-in-the-tooth twin-cylinder Kawasaki Ninja 300. Oh, and you can also wait a little more and buy the upcoming 2022 KTM RC 390, which is set to be launched soon.
