TVS Apache RTR 180: Same Price Other Options

ADVs, faired bikes, e-scooters and more; here’s what your options are

TVS recently updated the RTR 180, one of the oldest bikes in its portfolio. In its latest iteration, the streetfighter gets more power, better tech and a fatter rear tyre, among other bits. 

That said, these updates are accompanied by a substantial price increase of Rs 9,900 over its predecessor. So, if you think that the new RTR 180 doesn’t justify its Rs 1,30,590 (ex-showroom Delhi) price tag, then here’re six other options that might take your fancy for the same price. 

Hero XPulse 200 4V

At Rs 1,36,378 (ex-showroom Delhi), the Hero XPulse 200 4V is Rs 5,788 more expensive than the RTR 180. For the extra money, you get a go-anywhere motorcycle that can double up as the bike to hit the trails with on weekends. So, if you’ve even the slightest off-road ambitions, it’s hard to look beyond this Hero ADV.

Suzuki Gixxer SF

The Suzuki Gixxer SF is priced at Rs 1,37,100. While faired bikes have always been a favourite among Indians, the Gixxer SF’s edgy styling, impressive fit & finish and the premium colours (especially the MotoGP-inspired one) on offer enhance its sporty appeal. So, if a sporty-yet-comfortable bike is something you’re looking for, you could consider the Suzuki Gixxer SF.

Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise 

For Rs 7,778 more than the Apache RTR 180, you can get yourself the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise. In its latest iteration, the bike gets a set of LED DRLs, a large windshield and new graphics, adding a touch of modernity to the otherwise retro-style bike. If that and its laid back, comfortable seating position appeals to you, you could have a look at the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise. It’s not like you have too many other options if you fancy cruiser motorcycles at the affordable spectrum anyway.

Yamaha Aerox 155

If you want the Apache’s sportiness in a scooter format, the Yamaha Aerox 155, India’s most affordable performance-oriented scooter, makes a compelling case for itself. For Rs 8,710 more than the Apache RTR 180, you get a scooter with a sharp design and edgy body panels, a scooter that’s probably more fun to ride than half of the motorcycles on sale in India today. And, you still get most of the practicality that you associate with scooters in any case.

Ather 450 Plus

While TVS gave the RTR 180 a new LED headlight, its overall design has been carried over and it does look a bit dated now. The Ather 450 Plus, with its futuristic design along with the complete lack of fuel expenses might interest you. At Rs 1,34,147 (ex-showroom Delhi, including FAME II subsidy), this electric scooter is the only two-wheeler among the aforementioned ones that undercuts the TVS Apache RTR 180.

Special Mention: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V

One of the biggest competitors to the Apache RTR 180 could actually come from TVS’ stable itself. Available from Rs 1,20,728 (ex-showroom Delhi), the RTR 180’s smaller-engined, four-valve sibling, the Apache RTR 160 4V, presents itself as a good alternative. For a lot less money, you get a bike that makes 0.53PS more, just 0.77Nm less and one that’s loaded with almost the same amount of tech. So if the RTR 180’s price tag sounds too much to you, you could consider the Apache RTR 160 4V.
