Triumph Speed 400 vs Royal Enfield Classic 350: Detailed Comparison

Before you wonder why we are comparing a 400cc bike to a 350cc one, we have to remind you that the Triumph Speed 400 now actually has a 350cc heart. Now, whether that’s misleading or not is something you can decide for yourself, but that does mean it now directly goes up against the other 350cc retro bike, the heavyweight (both literally and figuratively), the Royal Enfield Classic 350. 

Now, while that does make both these bikes direct competitors, they’re both such different bikes to ride that you will not confuse one with the other. Here’s which one will suit you better: 

Price & Variants

• The differences begin from the very first step, for the Royal Enfield Classic 350’s base variant costs almost Rs 50,000 less than the Speed 400. In fact, even the Classic’s top variant costs Rs about Rs 14,000 less than the Triumph bike. 

• Now, while the Speed 400 packs a more modern kit than the Classic 350, the price delta is still a bit too big to ignore. So on the whole, one can’t help but feel that the Classic 350 is the slightly better deal of the two. 

Dimensions & Design 

• There’s no contesting the difference in the bikes’ dimensions. On the whole, the Classic 350 is a bigger, brawnier bike which definitely has better road presence. Its design is timeless, and even after all these years, it still makes heads turn with its size, design and exhaust. 

• The Triumph Speed 400, meanwhile, is compact, a lot more sporty and not as attention-grabbing. Yes, its finish levels are world-class and on closer inspection, it will feel like the more premium, better-finished of the two. But in terms of sheer size and ‘aura’, it cannot match the Classic 350. 

• And if that is what you want, there’s nothing quite like the Royal Enfield bike. That said, the Classic is also quite large for newer riders so if you want something more compact, sporty and most importantly, something that’s easier to ride, the Speed 400’s 16kg weight advantage will be something you’d like. 

• Both bikes take a different route in their designs too. The Classic 350 is authentically retro, with round elements and not a whole lot of modern touches. It will still feel like the Classic from years gone by and it’s a nice feeling. 

• But the Speed is a lot more modern, with its LED indicators, modern styling, 17-inch wheels as well as the presence of alloy wheels as standard. So again, none is right or wrong, it’s more about what your personal preference is. 

• It is the Speed which gets the more eye-catchy colours of the two. 

Features & Safety

• Now you know what we meant when we said that the Speed 400 packs a more modern kit. The bike has everything you expect from a neo-retro bike in 2026 and bits like traction control and dual-channel ABS as standard do keep you that much safer on our unpredictable roads. 

• The Classic 350 has a lot less features on offer, and honestly, we’re not mad. It adds to the feeling of riding an old school bike, and given that its engine is actually quite easy to live with, we’re fine with it. So it again boils down to what you want from your bike. 

Engines

• Both bikes have a 349cc engine, and that’s pretty much where the similarities end. For starters, the Triumph bike has a liquid-cooled engine while the Royal Enfield bike has an air-cooled unit. The Speed 400’s performance-oriented approach is visible, for it makes almost double the horsepower of the Classic. 

• And then there’s the fact that the Speed makes its peak power and torque a fair bit higher in the revs than the Classic. Meaning it’s still more peaky than the Classic 350. While the Classic 350 is all about easy-going torque, the Speed 400 will want you to rev it up a bit more to access all of the performance. 

• If you chase excitement and thrill, the Speed 400 will definitely be the more exciting of the two. But for the relaxed, easygoing people, there’s still nothing quite like the Classic 350.
